new to RI, looking for recommendations

Hi all! DH and I just relocated from Arizona, and we're living in Providence. I'd love some recommendations for primary care physicians (especially the kinds that only make appointments for same day/next day!), ob/gyn, and great spots for nails and massages.

Thanks in advance :)

    Welcome to RI!

I don't really love my PCP, and I don't get my nails done often and I've never had a massage, so I'm no help on those. If you're willing to drive to Warwick, I love my obgyn, Marilyn Powers at Caring for Women.

    SPAS

Alayne White Spa in Providence (also in Bristol) has gotten good reviews by the Nesties. I remember rave reviews about the facials -- http://www.alaynewhite.com/

The Spa at the Providence Biltmore was also highly recommended when it was still an Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spa. But, it reopened earlier this year under new management. I don't know if anyone has gone since the management change -- http://www.providencebiltmore.com/spa.html

Tranquil Waters in Seekonk MA is another Nestie favorite, and depending on where you are, it's not all that far of a drive. http://www.tranquilwatersspacafe.com/

The Right Touch Day Spa in North Attleboro MA is another recommended spa, and is just over the border into Massachusetts. http://www.therighttouchdayspa.com/

As for doctor and dentist recs, this was asked a couple months back. These replies might help!

  • My mom went to Caring for Women five years ago (before she moved to Florida) and was quite pleased with them. I got to Dr O'Toole in Johnston. She delivered ds and was fantastic. I've never been to a spa so I have no recommendations Welcome to rhode island!

  • Welcome to RI.  I just changed PCPs to Dr. Richard VanNieuwenheize in Lincoln.  I really like him (I wanted the women in the practice, but they aren't taking new patients). As far as spas, I would recommend The Right Touch in North Attleboro, right over the RI line.  Hope you are enjoying RI

  • I would recommened Dr. Carothers at Broadway OB/GYN in Providence- I have seen her a few times, and she is delivering my coworkers baby (and she has glowing reviews for her). I would NOT suggest to see Dr. Ramos in that practice (but that was just my experience)

I like Sienna Ianelli for a facial.

Also Alyne White is known for their skin care, and is located in Providence. Their prices are also reasonable. Their massages are great (just had one a few weeks ago) and I am pretty sure they might do Mani/pedis as well, though I haven't gotten one there.

I live in Cumberland and go to the beauty bar for nails- but that is about 20 min North of Providence.

  • Marilyn Powers was not my primary, but she delivered my daughter!
  • For primary care, I just started seeing Dr Amy Goldfarb with Coastal Medical (on Baker St in Providence).  I go to Bayside OBGYN and see Dr Brousseau - like her a lot!

I also recommend Alayne White for facials/massages, etc.  Nice place and pretty reasonable!
  • Thank you all so much, this is really helpful! It makes me realize what's important in my life...a  good ob/gyn, a good pcp, and a good manicure!

And we are really loving it so far. It certainly helps that it's at least 25 degrees cooler than Phoenix at any given moment!

  • No recommendations, sorry! But I wanted to say welcome to RI :-)
  • Welcome to R.I.!  I moved here two months ago from Indiana. Still learning my way around too. Anyways just wanted to say Hi and Welcome!
