what do you think?

If you walked into an ice cream store at 6pm, they had multiple tvs on abcfamily. The show being played had the mom being invited to a threesome by a business man and a prostitute and the two tween girls calling each other bitches. You and your family are pretty much the only people in there so it's more then quiet enough for your kid to hear the whole show.

What would you think?

Would you mention it to the employee that it's innapropriate and ask them to change the channel? Would you not even notice because it's so normal? Would you just not go back there because you now never know what's playing there and you don't think 4 is the age you should have to explain what a threesome is to your kid? Would you figure it's a one off because it's abcfamily for goodness sake?

WTH? That was on abcFamily?? I think I'd be more worried about contacting freaking ABC!

But to answer your question, I'd maybe bring it up to the manager.  My guess is that they have it on that channel because it's supposedly family-friendly.  It's possible that he's just not paying attention to be aware of it.

  • ABC Family isn't what it used to be...

We'd probably take our ice cream to go and mention it on the way out. I wouldn't be rude or anything, but I'd point out what I thought was inappropriate and ask that they consider children when they set their TVs.  I can't say we'd boycott the place - depends I guess on how our feedback was received.

That was my first thought! lol

I'd probably ask them to change it or turn the volume down so that my small children wouldn't have to hear that.  Totally inappropriate for a "family" environment (b/c to me, an ice cream shop is...)

  • Was it this show?  http://abcfamily.go.com/shows/state-georgia

If it is...it's an ABC Family original series which irritates me to a whole new level.

Melissa and Joey is the same way.  The humor is not family friendly at all!

I would just ask them to turn it off or change the channel.  I'm sure they would be just as shocked as you.  ABC Family really shouldn't have that type of show on especially at 6pm.  I don't think it is anything against the store.

  • It's a stretch to call almost any show on ABC Family family friendly.

I would have asked them to change it.

Are the employees young?  Maybe if they are older teens they selected the station?

I am along the lines of this.  I'd definitely ask them to turn it down or change the channel.  And seriously - what the heck was on?

  • I would have asked them to turn down the volume or maybe change it.  Chance are either (A) some teenagers working there watch shows on that channel and wanted to watch it, not really thinking it through or (B) it was on the same channel all day and they really aren't paying attention.  Either way, I can't see there being an issue changing the channel/turning down the volume.

ABC Family isn't family friendly in the evening.  Daytime and weekends, yes.  Evening, no.

  • This was a quote from an article about Melissa & Joey:

When asked if the tone of the comedy will stay light, they both explained that ?we don?t want to have those ?very special episodes,? but we will have interesting themes to the upcoming episodes including a threesome and a lesbian wedding.? They joked that even though they are on ABC Family, it is ?like cable, as they can get away with things that ABC proper wouldn?t allow.?

If it's not going to be family-friendly, maybe they should change the name.

  • ABC Family? WTH!!!  To answer your question, yes I'd ask them to change it in a heartbeat.  That is not appropriate for children at all.
  • It was Melissa and Joey, there were two teens in there watching it but since they opened they have always had ABC Family on at least one tv, it used to be the other was on disney but now it's all abc family.

I was at breakfast with a couple friends today and asked them. Another mom said she has had to ask them twice to change it, once it was on that show pretty little liars (same language issue) and another time it was some other not appropriate show.  They changed it for her then but it always goes back to that channel later.

It just struck me as odd , glad I'm not the only one who thought it was innaproppirate.  I didn't say anything then but it makes me perfer another yogurt store even more. It won't make me boycott them or anything but it does knock them down the list.

As long as they change the channel if you ask, no big deal.  If they don't, I would leave and just not bother returning.

From what I have seen on my gossip mags, everything on ABC Family looks pretty trashy.  Surprised I am not watching it!
