What can i do to help?

My mom called me this morning to tell me that my sister has 8" of sewage in her basement :-( I am just heart broken for them. They live in a ranch style home and all the kids' toys were in the basement and sadly are all getting thrown out! I don't know what to even do to help out. On top of that, my hometown is flooded yet again and Dubuque got 13in of rain! I cannot imagine all that people are dealing with right now!

Re: What can i do to help?

  • Would it be a good time for Ella to weed out some toys from your guys' stash and give to them?  I know, Adam called his family this morning to make sure they were all okay, I can't believe how much rain they got!!!

  • I am so sorry to hear that.  How heartbreaking!   I wish I could give you ideas of what you could do to help but I am not sure either.  If they need anything specific feel free to post here as maybe we could help too!
  • can you send cleaning supplies? stop at the dollar tree and get some fun cheap stuff to hold them off?

  • Of course since I work for a home/auto insurance company that is the first thing that pops in my mind.. They need to call their agent and ask if they have "back up of sewer and drain" coverage. Most people have $5000-$10000 and that will cover both the damage to the carpet/walls and the personal property that was down there. So sorry this happened to them!

  • That is terrible :o( I second the idea of maybe finding some toys that Ella can give them. I know there isn't much in the way of eating out there, but could you send them dinner or a gift card? Cooking would be the last thing on my mind if I was dealing with that mess. I wonder if DH's family is okay? He has a lot of relatives over that way.

  • What ages are her kids?  If we have any toys that would be appropriate to give them, I'd happily find some to send along to them...

So sorry to hear about this Sad  What a yucky situation.

This, This, This!  C has way too many toys/books.  If their kids are a similar age, or close, I would love an opportunity to weed some things out while helping a deserving family.

  • Thanks ladies! I wish this was my chance to get rid of some of Ella's toys, but my niece is 7 and my nephew is 5, so we have a lot of their hand me down toys. I think Adam is going to give some of his tractors and things to my nephew and I will find something for my niece. I just can't imagine! Thanks so much for your suggestions and offers, there really are great people on here!
