do you/have you used a grocery delivery service? which ones

I did Peapod a long time ago and I'm thinking about signing up for it again.  What other services are out there?

  • I do not, but some of my neighbors swear by Safeway.com

I looked into the whole Arganica thing, but it seemed expensive.

  • I would do Giant in a hot second if they delivered in my area.  I keep checking and hoping it's available.

  • We've used Peapod off and on for ages and it's fabulous.  Sometimes I even end up saving more than I would at the store since I can taylor things to what we really need/what's on sale/what I have coupons for better than I might if we were in the store.  We've also used Harris Teeter's express lane service a few times.  They don't all offer it (we use Maple Lawn's) and the website still needs some ironing out, but you get really great personal service.  It's pickup rather than delivery - but even that is a huge help sometimes since it means I don't even have to take DS out of his carseat.

  • I tried Safeway, but I didn't like that you couldn't use coupons or that you didn't know the total price until the day they delivered it. If you order it on a given day that a sale is on, but it can't be delivered until the sale is off, you pay whatever the price is on delivery day. Also, I ordered donuts and they were hard and stale like they were packed the day before. I ended up having to return them which voided most of the convenience of not having to go to the grocery store. This was back in December, though, so maybe they've improved since then.
  • When my mom's health started deteriorating and she couldn't make the trips to the store herself she used Safeway's delivery service. It was great for her - she was able to stick to her list, no impulse buying and the delivery men were always so nice and brought everything right into the kitchen. The food was fresh and it really worked well for her. As much as I hate food shopping, I'd much rather pick out my food myself, but that's just a personal preference.

Ditto!!  I used PeaPod back in NJ and it's great.  The Shop Rite by us just started doing it and it was great also!!  Ordered online and picked it up.  They were practically waiting for me at the door...loved it!

  • I used Peapod once to try it and I wasn't all that impressed. The veggies they picked out for me, I would definitely not have picked myself. They weren't the greatest looking. And the broccoli was just loose in the bag instead of in a separate bag. Little broccoli pieces were everywhere

  • We have done Peapod in the past, and now frequently use Harris Teeter's Express Lane (maple lawn in Howard county- bev who runs it is the BEST- my kids adore her). I found the prices at Peapod to be more expensive than in store at Giant, and when I did the same online orders for Peapod and HT, when I hit $20 at HT I was already almost at $30 with Peapod. Plus the fee is less and they dont take tips. HT has been great for us, only it has to be convenient for you to be worthwhile since you have to pick up yourself.
  • Love Peapod. They have good selection, pricing, and specials. I get coupons / specials off their FB page as well, and I think you can use real coupons although I never have. They just moved to a new location in Baltimore so they should have bigger / better selections. Although I've never really had a problem with anything I've ordered except one time they were out of cheese puffs and chocolate donettes. :(
