I know it's early, but we're going to be in your neck of the woods in September and I wanted to start planning our little trip :) Any great restaurant recommendations from a local? We'll probably be eating out at least twice while we're there and one night I'd like to go somewhere with a nice romantic ambiance. We looked at Sun Dial but holy geez the prices! Also any must-sees you would recommend that we might fit into an afternoon? TIA!

  • For things to see and do in Atlanta, The Aquarium has a new dolphin exhibit. Cheesy but interesting and near the Aquarium is the World of Coca-Cola. It's a museum/ tasting ground for the Soda. I haven't been in a while but it's neat to realize how a Soft Drink can influence so much. The Fernbank Natural History Museum has a mystical creature exhibit and dinosaurs!  The Vortex, has comedy shows.Which could be a fun night. If you are interested in Art. The High Museum has a pretty good and growing collection. If you are beer drinkers. Take a tour of the Sweetwater brewery, You get a pint glass and get to hang out and sample the beers along with a tour.

Areas that are interesting to walk around and explore. Little 5 Points. Weird little stores and interesting people make it one of the most colorful parts of the city. If you are interested in watching Soccer the Brewhouse there can not be beat. Everyone comes out to cheer their teams.

As for location. If you haven't booked that yet. Atlanta is very difficult to drive in. Traffic is brutal. A lot of people drive everywhere.  I'm partial since I live in Midtown but it's a great jumping point for most of the things in the city. It's also a very walkable area of town with lots of shops and restaurants.

As for food. I'm a big food person. I believe you said you mentioned you were going to see Wicked? I'll give you some great options near the Fox. The Fox is in Midtown, since it's my neighborhood I'm pretty familiar with everything around.

Fancier dining, Near the Fox, South City Kitchen, Ecco and  Top Flr - These are definitely more local fancier dining, Not directly on the main Peachtree Street that runs through Atlanta, but near it.

Bararonda -near the Fox and also really good Italian

Not near the Fox but great food places Woodfire Grill, Rathbuns,

Baccanalia is one of the best restaurants in the city, can be expensive but  OMG it is one of the best dining experiences in the city.

There are local casual haunts like-   Fox Brother's BBQ , Mellow Mushroom Pizza a local chain that's great. My favorite local bar and pub grub food is Cypress Street Pint and Plate.

Richard Blais from Top Chef's Flip Burger Boutique, & the Vortex local famous burger joint. If your interested in Burgers

Sorry I wrote you a novel. I have just been writing things as I think of them. :)

  • Thanks so much for all the great info! And you get bonus points for links! haha I think we're definitely going to do the aquarium and hit up Little Five Points while there. We'd planned on spending a day at Six Flags too since we're both roller coaster fanatics and there's a newer one there we haven't ridden yet, and I'm sure DH will be itching to do the Sweetwater tour now! Do you know anything about Indigo restaurant in Roswell by chance? The hubby apparently wanted to try it out as well while we're there.

  • I don't know anything about Indigo, but it sounds good.

I love Six Flags. I had a season pass when I was in High School and went all the time. Stop in a gas station and check out the coca-cola cans they sometimes have buy one get one free admission.
