Stakeholders vs departments

Say you were instructed to write an essay describing at least 3 stakeholder groups for a company and how social media can reach them. Instead, you wrote about the departments within the company and how they could use social media to reach stakeholders. Is that wrong?

I was instructed to do this for part of an interview and now I think I really messed up by focusing on how the departments can connect with the stakeholders.

Re: Stakeholders vs departments

  • Did you identify at least 3 stakeholder groups?

When you were focusing on departments, did you tailor the comments to describe how these departments could address the interests/needs of these stakeholder groups?

If so, I'd think you are ok....if not, you might have missed the mark a bit.

  • What is unclear to me in the original instruction is who is using the social media and whether the stakeholders are internal or external to the company. Since that wasn't clear, it sounds like you decided the "who" was a department. Therefore, writing how departments use social media to reach stakeholders is logical.
