Droid or iPhone

Which one should I get and why? Pro/cons of either would be helpful. I currently have a Blackberry and use Verizon if that matters. TIA!

Re: Droid or iPhone

  • I say Android.  Personally, I'm not a big Apple fan anyway, but I like a Google based phone (which most...if not all...Androids are).  Almost every app you can get on the iPhone, you can also get on the Android so it's not like there is something you would be missing.

The iPhone commercials irritate me!  LOL!  They act like the iPhone is the ONLY PHONE that is also an mp3 player.  So not the case.  My mp3 choices are trended and linked to Amazon mp3, which "suggests" music...much like the iPhone does with iTunes.

I'm just an Android girl!  :)

  • I am an Apple girl. I say iPhone. They are more user friendly and have less problems. Every person I know with a droid phone has had nothing but problems. I have had my iphone for 2 years (the same one) and I have not had any problems with it. My my mom had so many problems with her droid phone. She ended up switching carriers just to get the iPhone.

  • I had a whole reply typed out and the Nest ate it.  Grrrrrrrrr...

    Recap:
I've had the same experience as TETaylor, but flipped.  iPhone users I know complain about them constantly, especially about certain apps (FourSquare, Facebook, Google+, etc). They also complain about battery life and how it's complicated to swap out a new battery (because any phone you use for years is GOING to need a new battery).

Bottom line, if you already use iTunes, have an iPod, or other Apple products it would be best to go with an iPhone.  If you're not tied to that platform, I'd say take a look at Android.  I'm not sure how Verizon's iPhone plans run, we only have AT&T around here but they put a limit on data usage with the iPhones unless you pay a premium here so a lot of people have been ditching AT&T/Apple in general.

  • Love my iPhone.  Love iTunes on it. FaceTime - use it all.the.time with my sister!  I'm highly addicted to downloading free apps.  LOL!
  • I am an Apple girl. I have the iPhone, and also have a MacBook Pro as my main computer at home.  I've also had iPods since day one, and just LOVE the whole set up.  I LOVE LOVE LOVE my iPhone, and have had no issues with it.

I have never had an Android phone though, so I can't compare.  I have a friend who works for Verizon and is a total tech nerd.  He had a droid, and swore he wasn't going to switch to iPhone and now has..he says that they are very comparable though...+

  • I had a blackberry and now have HTC Evo which is android. I love it. I don't do stuff with Apps much but the internet is really good on it. And fb is way better than it was on blackberry. I thought I would miss BBM but I really like how texts and everything are set up. It took awhile to get used to touch screen but not I could never go back. I have no problems with it so maybe older phones had some and they've worked them all out.

As of July 7th (I believe....a few days after I got mine) if you did not already have a SmartPhone via Verizon, with a $29.99 unlimited monthly plan, you no longer can get 'unlimited' data plan...it will still cost you $29.99, you still get unlimited texting with it, but you get a certain amt of data to use, which I was told is still A LOT, at least for the average user, but there are some super users out there who use their phones for everything, download a ton, surf a ton, and they were doing all that for the same price as the Average Joe was paying...so as of July 7th, if they didn't already have a smartphone and a 29.99 data package, you now get that 'limited' data and you would pay more for more data.

Might not apply to you if you already had Verizon and a smartphone, and probably doesn't apply to you unless you use the phone a ton, but just an FYI...and this would apply to all phones.

  • I have Sprint and I have to pay $10 a month on top of my plan for the 4G network I think but I have unlimited data.
  • I also love my iPhone.  I had an iTouch before, so I was familiar with the apps and everything.  I rarely turn on my computer anymore and only use my phone.  I have it synced with all my emails (including work and travel) and I have apps that are invaluable!  I would die if I lost this phone!  My ONLY complaint is that typing on it is a b!tch!

(I didn't read all of the other replies)

I'm an apple girl, but Kelly's droid (HTC Desire) is amazing. Flash and everything! For him doing all of his web stuff for work, an iPhone would not work. The iPhone is perfect for me but I feel like his android has zero limitations. Since everything I have is apple, I like that everything syncs so well. I really think it's going to be just a matter of opinion.

  • I have an old school Droid, I've had it for nearly 2 years and I still love it! My whole life is in google, so it works well for me. I love that I have my email, calendar, business phone, etc. all sync'd up. I can access it seamlessly from my phone or the computer. Honestly, my only complaint is that one of the kids broke the side volume button, so I can't turn up the in-call volume...but that could have happened with any phone!

I have a friend with an iPhone and sometimes I have to really translate what she's trying to say. That autocorrect is no joke!

My biggest suggestion is not to get the very first generation of ANY phone you get. Give them time to work out the kinks. I think this is one of the issues with Droids, for a while, there was a new model every couple of weeks!
