Sac Nesties: House Hunt Help! Please!

Hi Ladies,

I need some help. My husband and I are both Realtors in the Bay Area and we are trying to help DH's mom buy a condo in Sacramento (Carmichael). We have access to the MLS but our lock box is not compatible with the Sacramento system so we will be relying on open homes and favors from the Listing Agents in order to tour properties.

We are having a rough time finding information on open homes (searching the MLS and SacBee online). So my question is:

What is your favorite resource for finding open homes in your area?

Thanks so much for your help!

Re: Sac Nesties: House Hunt Help! Please!

  • Honestly, after going through the house hunting process earlier this year, I feel like there aren't too many open houses right now, per se. More of just heading out with our agent.

I would concentrate on setting up appts with the Listing Agents since it sounds like you are acting as her Agents.

  • I used (and really loved) the Trulia app on my iPhone.  It's free, and you can have it search based on a mapped location and what you're looking for for open houses happening right then, happening over the weekend, etc.  It was great for our weekend OH touring we did before we got an REA and got serious about buying.

  • Thanks ladies, I really appreciate it.

Dh will be representing his mom. I will check out Trulia, I've used them for my own opens. I'm not going to bad-mouth anyone, we've just been very frustrated in trying to set up appointments so I am looking for other good resources. The opepn house section of the MLS is not always well used by agents and we haven't been able to find open info through the MLS. I'm trying to get creative! Big Smile

  • I downloaded the Redfin, Zillow and Trulia iPhone apps when we started looking, and I liked Redfin the best of the three. Good luck!

  • I live in an awesome townhome complex in Carmichael called Casitas Manzanita. There are at least 4 units for sale that I know of. There's a 2 bed 1 bath 4 doors down on sale for $55,000! Hope that helps!
