Moms

Today is day 10 of L keeping a fever of 103. We have been to the pediatrician a few times, had lab work, chest xray and urine tests. They started him on amoxicillan to see if that would help, but no luck. If he doesn't have fever reducing medication every 3-4 hours then he becomes lethargic and just moans. DH and I feel helpless. What would you do?

Re: Moms

  • Honestly, I would take him to the ER.  Fevers scare the sh*t out of me.

ETA: Didn't mean to scare you.  I'm really glad they've already started doing tests, x-rays and stuff, but you need an answer.  When James had a fever we couldn't control it turned out to be pneumonia, so it's good that that diagnosis is out of the way.

  • Holy crap. They just tried one thing and other than recommending fever-reducer, are just letting it go on and on? I agree with either taking him to the ER or taking him somewhere else for a second opinion. Have you seen more than one doc at PP?
  • We have seen Dr.C and E. They have been very attentive, but I think they are unsure what to do. Dr.C called back this morning to say she made us an appointment with a specialist on Wednesday. Wednesday seems like forever. I think we will end up in the ER this weekend, if it continues :(
  • Next Wednesday?  That IS forever and really sucks.  I hope your little guy feels better soon and you can avoid a trip to the ER.  I was googling (so you wouldn't have to) and some flus can last 10 days, so there's definitely a range of explanations.
  • Ditto on everybody else with the ER. I get itchy if they have a fever for more than 3-4 days! Can you call the specialist's office and see if they can fit you in any earlier? I think we'd likely be taking him to Wolfson's.

  • Next Wednesday?! That's almost a week! Hell to the naw!
  • Madisen- Thanks for looking. I've been avoiding Google like the plague.

We went to Wolfsons ER last week and that is when they diagnosed him with coxsackie. Our pediatrician is positive that he does not/did not have that. I hate to go back, again.

I tried using some contacts through work to get into their clinic sooner, but Wednesday is their first day back in clinic. Boo.

  • Just butting in to say I hope everything's ok with Luke!

  • I would have taken him to Wolfson's too. I hope he is feeling better!
