Duncin Hines Classic White Cake Question

I noticed that the classic white cake from a box is now requiring only egg whites instead of the whole egg. Has that always been the case and I just haven't really paid close attention? Would it change the taste/color if I used the whole egg?

Re: Duncin Hines Classic White Cake Question

  • I just made this this week.  I think the egg yolk would change the color to more of a slight yellow color not sure if it would change the taste.

Ditto this.  And it's been like that for as long as I remember.

  • As far as I know, the white has always just called for the whites.  I often use the whole egg anyway (unless I'm making a wedding cake where I don't want a HINT of yellow)
  • Thanks Ladies!! Will bake w/ whites only - want not a hint of yellow in the "fruit basket" cake am making for MIL's b'day Sunday
