Eli and I were in a terrible accident last week. We were turning on a busy street at a light to get back on the interstate. I didnt see the car coming at us. I was supposed to yield. He hit my husbands jeep (that I was driving...Eli was behind me) in the back right of the jeep...this spun our car around and we rolled onto the drivers side. It was aweful. I was on the phone with my dad at the time. My phone went flying , and they heard everything. They heard the crash...me screaming for my baby...and my baby Eli not even crying...they heard on lookers talking to me to try to find a way out of the car...
Eli was taken to the emergency room. He only suffered a scratch on the colored part of his eye from where the back windows glass broke. The next day at the pediatrician, the dr didnt even see the scratch anymore. I feel so lucky to still have my son.
Now, Im terrified to drive. There are things I would like to do in the afternoon... but I dont want to drive alone with him anymore. I could have killed my son. The guilt of putting him through that is overwhelming.
This sunday he was baptized and we had a nice party for him celebrating his life and first steps in his christian/catholic journey.
this is a picture with Eli's godmother holding him ( my best friend)

Re: Update
Oh my gosh Jessy I'm so glad you and Eli are ok!! That must have been terrifying for you and also your dad on the phone! Someone was watching over you, and thank heavens for that. I'm sure Eli won't remember it since he's so little still. I'm sure it'll take some time to feel comfortable driving but I'm sure you'll be extra cautious; I know I was after my accident rear ending someone and still am 9 years later when approaching another vehicle in front of me.
:::Hugs::: Thanks for letting us know you guys are ok!

Oh my goodness!! I am SO glad to here that you and Eli are okay!!! What a horrible thing to have to go through. And what a miracle that he didn't get hurt at all! How are you? Did you have any injuries? I can completely understand where you are coming from with the fear of driving now, but my guess would be that with time it will get easier and you should just take it slow. Every one makes mistakes and it doesn't mean you are a bad driver or that it is going to happen again.
Those are beautiful pictures and your son is adorable!!
Whoa! Not the update I was expecting to say the least. I'm so glad you are both okay, at least physically.
I really hate to hear you say "I almost killed my baby". NO YOU DIDN'T. That's why the call it an accident - and it sounds like you weren't even at fault. i'm sure it will take a while to get comfortable behind the wheel, but pleeaassseee do not blame yourself for this.
I'm so glad to hear that you are both physically ok! I'm sure the emotional part will take longer. I think the best advice is to start out on short trips that don't involve highways or really busy roads maybe just to get yourself used to being behind the wheel again.
I'm sure someone already told you this but I want to say it again just in case. Buy a NEW car seat. Once it has been in a car that was in an accident it compromises the integrity of the seat and might not do its job the next time even though it looks ok. So please before you go back into the car replace that seat!!!
oh my goodness. i'm so glad that you and eli are ok! please don't beat yourself up over this! that is why they call them accidents! it's just a car, the important thing is that you and eli are ok.
he looks absolutely adorable!

This was my first thought once they released eli from the er. My parents went out and got one for us while I fed him .
Oh goodness, I'm SO SO SO thankful that you guys are okay! I can't imagine how scared you are, I would be just as scared to drive by myself. Maybe just stay on small roads for a while until you are comfortable with driving again. These things happen to the best drivers, so don't beat yourself up over it.
On a much happier note: Eli is so adorable in his baptismal garments, thanks for sharing that beautiful picture

Not the update I was expecting either! My heart literally skipped a beat! I'm so glad you and Eli are okay!
We have clients that have been involved in accidents and are afraid to drive to. May I suggest getting to a psychologist that specializes in PTSD. They may be able to help with some of the fear of getting back on the road.
Eli looks absolutely angelic in his baptismal gown. Thanks for sharing the pics!

Ditto this - I know what you went through was terrifying, but you don't need to feel guilty on top of everything else.
After I had a very bad accident 7 years ago (my car was totaled and I had to climb out of the car via my driver's side window and slide down the hood...exciting) I forced myself to get back in a car ASAP. Luckily at the time, my job required driving and travel, so a few days later because I had NO choice, I was on the highway in a rental car. Granted, I had a panic attack and had to pull over, but after that I was fine. You must force yourself to drive, believe me, the fear will subside.
I'm just glad everyone's okay
