How tall will your child be?

I'm sure you've all heard this before (in fact, we may have done this on the board already, I can't remember), but I got some silly parenting email today that had the calculations, and I thought would give us something to do. For a boy, add 5 to the mom's height then average with the dad's height. For a girl, subtract 5 from the dad's height then average with the mom's height.

So, according to that:

Phoenix will be about 5'5

a son for us would be about 5'10

Re: How tall will your child be?

  • So, that would mean Sam is destined to be around 5'6"

A son would be 5'11 or so...

Man that was too much math for a Friday...

lol, ya, I totally cheated and used Excel to do all the math for me

  • Our son would be 6'1".

    Our daughter would be 5'8".

I feel like either of those are overly optimistic.

  • Without even doing the math, I already know the answer and that is short! :)

Actually according to this, our girl(s) would be 5'3 (my exact height)  and boy(s) would be 5'8 (Josh's exact height). Funny.

  • According to our heights Teaghan should be 5'3 and a boy should be around 5'8

  • According to this, Nate should be 6'1" According to his chart today, the doc said 6'2". A girl should be 5'8"
Baby, you've got the sort of eyes that tell me tales...

  • I really hope this doesn't hold true for us because if my math is correct (and it very well may not be) our son will be 5'7". I'm 5'3" and J is 5'9".

Tonia-- your doctor predicted his height?  I never heard of that.  Do you know how he figured it out?

I was wondering this too. i've never heard of a way to predict it when they're that little.

I have heard that when they're two, you can take their height and double it to get the height that they will be when they're fully grown.

  • I was curious and went searching.  I found a random wesite that estimates it.  It said Weston will be 6 ft 0.6 inches.  I don't know if its credible thought lol.

It's something to do with averaging their current growth rate with something else.. don't remember what though.

The Dr. tells my sister that my oldest nephew will be about 6'6" by the time he's done growing. He's already 5'10" and he's only 10!

  • I'm not exactly sure how he predicts it. He's been predicting since he was born and was always saying 6'1", 6'2". He was my pediatrician and he said I'd be 5'11" and I'm 5'9" so he was pretty close!

This is all very interesting -- I had no idea!  I might have to ask about this at Sam's 1-year appt!

they did this for me, and I was supposed to be 6 inches taller than I am. oops! I guess it worked out for the better. With these calcs I should be 2in shorter than I really am.

    my daughter: 5'3

    my son: 5'8

  • Our hypothetical unborn daughter would be 5'11"

Our hypothetical unborn son would be 6'4"!!!!!
