Double Stroller HELP!!!

So I have come to the point of OBSESSING over what double stroller is best and it is driving my DH crazy (he is now saying just buy whatever, no matter the cost).  DS#1 will be 22 months when DS#2 is born.  We have the Chicco 30 carseat and currently for strollers I have the Chicco single stroller that went with the carseat, a basic jogging stroller that a friend gave me and an umbrella stroller that we keep in DH's car for quick trips.

I know that no stroller is going to be perfect, but I cannot decide if I want the Chicco Double, a sit & stand, or put more money into getting a Baby Jogger double, Phil & Ted, etc.  I am not much of a mall person, but I go to the zoo, children's museum, traveling, etc.  I also have really enjoyed my jogging stroller and wouldn't mind having the option with a double.  If someone is in LOVE with there double stroller...please reccomend it to me!

Also, DS#1 is VERY independent and half of the time doesn't even want to ride in the stroller, which sometimes makes me think that I could maybe just get by with my single, but then I think of the times that I might need to attend to the baby that he will need to be strapped in so he is safe!  Please help!!!

Re: Double Stroller HELP!!!

  • I LOVE my Babytrend sit & stand.  My kids are 2 years apart and I use it everytime we go to the mall, zoo, etc.  Our Chicco fit in the infant carrier side just fine.  Plus it's one of the cheaper options.  I don't think we'll stop using it for another year or so (DD will be 4 in November).  It's just so easy for her to get in and out of the standing part.

I recently bought a single stroller thinking DD would not want to ride in the sit and stand anymore and I have used it once.

  • That is good to hear...I had always read that Chicco car seats were NOT compatable with the Baby Trend.  Do you have the one that has the option of two seats like this??

  • I am not a mom but my BFF has 3 kids and swears by her baby jogger city mini double. When she just had two kids (newborn and 2 years old) she bought a sit and stand and it didn't work so well for longer trips like to the zoo or mall because the 2 year old got tired and wanted to ride too. She also said the baby jogger is very light, easy to open and close and maneuvers well through tight spaces.

Nope, just the standard BabyTrend Sit & Stand like this: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3980761

I think I read before I bought it that it wasn't compatible with the Chicco Keyfit 30, but it worked fine for me!  I know another Nestie used it with their Chicco too.

If you have an independent little one totally forget the double. I can count on my fingers the number of times I've used my stroller EVER, but it's even smaller now that I have a good carrier and my super independent little guy wouldn't have a stroller. The last time I even attempted to put him in it he had just turned 2 and he acted like it was some form of ancient torture. He doesn't even ride in the cart typically. It takes some time to teach them to stay by you, but it's a ton cheaper than buying a stroller and then finding out your kid refuses to use it.

I'd say save your money, but that's just me. You know your little ones best.

  • I got the new Britax B-Ready with additional second seat a few months ago. LOVE IT! It was kindof pricey but by the time I sold my Chicco travel system (I had the 22 and am borrowing my sister's 30 since she had twins and they are out of it), my Chicco umbrella, and my BabyTrend Sit N Stand, I didn't have to pay much out of pocket. I think maybe $100? I also bought mine off Amazon when Britax was doing their Free Ride event so I got a choice of the second seat, car seat, or bassinet. Obviously I chose the second seat. It is well worth it for me! Owen rides in the second seat and can get in/out when he pleases, the stroller is very versitile meaning I can take the second seat off, the top seat can face me or away, the sunshades on both seats are amazing, BOTH seats recline, it has a great cupholder, I can access the basket from all 4 sides, is an awesome single hand stroller, folds easily, has the brake on one wheel with a click brake showing green/red, steers amazing, and does not feel like you are pushing 2 kids at all like the way my sit n stand did.

My sister has the Chicco double since like i said, she has twins. I really like that one too but when you put 2 kids in both and try to maneuver each one, HANDS DOWN my Britax is waaay better/easier.

And, Britax has the best customer service HANDS DOWN! I had squeaky wheels,  and my second seat wasn't catching like it was supposed to all the time so i called them, and they sent me a whole new stroller and second seat! I have the red one and they weren't going to have any more in stock for a few weeks so I was able to keep my original red top seat and pick a new color to ship so I got black. So now I have a brand new stroller with a black and red top seat and a red second seat! And they sent me the label to send my old frame back! How's that for CS!

Here's my stroller fresh out of the box :) I have the top seat facing me but usually it faces forward. Oh and you can purchase the adapter to go on top for the infant seat (which is compatible with the Chicco), i think it's like $50.

I know SuperCuteBenz has the same thing in Black (she told me about the sweet amazon deal) and both her kids love it too!

  • We have this....

It's a Sit and Stand, but the back part also has a little seat for your older child.  So they can actually sit or stand.  We didn't use it with a car seat but it comes with an attachment so you can hook one in.  My kids are 2 yrs apart and it's worked very very well for us.  The biggest selling point for me with this one was it's turn radius, it's like pushing a single that still fits 2 kids.  Am I right girls, pushing a double side by side or tandem is a big old PITA.

ETA: sorry it's not clicky, it's a Joovy Caboose.  And the seat in the back for your older child does have straps to strap them in sitting down if you need it.  Bonus!

I had the Joovy, but it was so heavy, I had to return for the Sit & Stand.  But overall, they were the same (minus weight).  And yes, double side-by-side sounds monstrous, think those huge carts in the grocery store!  Lol!

  • I looked at this one, but I felt like the bottom tandem seat was SO close to the ground!  That is where you are putting your older child right?  Plus, then do you have no room for storage and just carry your diaper bag?

Are you talking about the Joovy?  That black part you see is where their feet go.  There's an orange seat (so the child sits backwards) above that that slides back and forth depending on what you're doing with it.  And there's a basket below it for storage.  It's not a lot of storage (I got so spoiled with my travel system stroller) and yes it's heavy.  Any double stroller is going to be heavy, I had to live with that.
