Rube's steakhouse or other steakhouses

Anyone been to Rube's? Reviews? Dh kinda wants to go but I'd rather do a place where he won't have to be up to cook his steak so we can actually talk to each other and relax. Any other suggestions for a good steak place?

Re: Rube's steakhouse or other steakhouses

  • I think Rube's is more fun with a crowd, (fun to have a few drinks then try and cook a steak to your liking).  If I were to go for a date night, or just a few people, I would go to 801, Flemings, Splash or Sam and Gabe's for a steak.

  • We've been there. It's rather rustic. Good food but I've also had better and also worse. It seems fairly noisy any time we've gone so it's a place you can take the kids and still get a steak.  lol!

Is it just you two? (Assuming since you mentioned relaxing.  lol)

I like Nick's. It's hidden away in the strip mall across (north) from Valley West Mall.

    Johnny's Italian Steakhouse is good.

I love Flemmings but of course it's pricey.

  • Funny you should ask.  We just went on date night there.  It can be a fun place but it seems to take forever to cook the steak.  The salad bar is just a bunch of what appears to be vendor prepared mayonaise based salads along with iceberg lettuce from a bag.  The meat is good but for the price I would have rather gone someplace else.  DH suggests it periodically and I always say no.  We were celebrating a promotion so thought I would let him have his pick.

  • Thanks for the input ladies! I knew I could count on you. Sounds like Rube's is not what I'm looking for at least tonight.  I think Johnny's Italian Steakhouse sounds good and we haven't been there in forever. We have a WHOLE night to ourselves to celebrate our anniversary. I'm super excited!

  • If you are still into a steak house and your DH wants to be able to cook his own, you could also try Iowa Beef Steakhouse on Euclid.  You can either have them cook it to your liking and bring it to the table, or for a few dollars less you can cook it yourself on a communal grill.  The food is pretty good (their bbq chicken is great) and the prices isn't as outrageous as most of the steak houses in the west suburbs.  The atmosphere is kind of dark wood paneling/sports bar older crowd feel but it is usually quiet and might make a decent compromise for a date night.

  • I had the most amazing steak at Centro earlier this year.

My favorite thing about Rubes is the Texas toast.
