Riddle me this- re: medicine
I am so confused and annoyed. I went to pick up some tylenol (or its equivalent) because we are out and I wanted to have some on hand since Brody will be getting shots next week. I bought the Up & Up brand of infant acetaminophen and it specifically says "compare to Tylenol infant acetaminophen." Well I get home and look at the box closer and it says for ages 2-3! What?! How is an infant product made for a 2-3 year old? I thought that medicine for 2-3 year olds was called "childrens." It says under 2 years old talk to your doctor and only lists dosing for 24 pounds and up. It comes in a dropper and everything just like infant medicine. What the heck? Am I just a moron or does this seem weird to anyone else?

Re: Riddle me this- re: medicine
I asked the pharmacist about this, as I just bought Target tylenol last month. She said there had been a packaging mix-up, and the stuff inside was fine, but the box was messed up. She said they were eager to keep theirs on the shelf since Tylenol brand name still isn't fully restocked, so they're keeping the messed up stuff out. Weird, but whatever! You are not alone!
I use the Dr. Sear's dosing guidelines anyway, http://www.askdrsears.com/topics/medicine-cabinet/acetaminophen.
Yup, even though the dosage is weird, as long as it says infant on it, it's the infant stuff in the box, so you're good to dose up the little people!
I read the other day that they recently changed the concentration on infants' acetaminophen products, so the dosage isn't the same as what we gave our 2 & 3 year olds when they were that small. You must have got some of the new product.
Here's a dosage chart we're used to:
http://assets.babycenter.com/ims/Content/first-year-health-guide_acetaminophen_chart_pdf.pdf
I'm assuming Brody falls into the 12-17lb range, so according to this chart, he'd get 80mg of acetaminophen, so just make sure you give him the amount that will yield that much medicine.
If you're still feeling unsure, call a 24hr pharmacy, tell them what's on the box and they should help you figure it out.The article I read (see link below) says there are 160mg per 5mL of medicine, so if that's what your box says, you'd give him 2.5mL.
