On the subject of blogs...
So what do you guys put on your blogs? Is it enough to compile a series of random events and toss them at the blog like spaghetti at dinner?
Should there be a semblance of organization to this? How often do you guys post on your blogs? Do people really post every day? (my life is far too dull to write something every day. Even I wouldn't read it. )
I've compiled about 20 pages of stuff that I've so far found that I wouldn't mind posting on a blog... hrm....
Chronically hilarious - you'll split your stitches!
I wrote a book! Bucket list CHECK!
Re: On the subject of blogs...
I started a blog when we moved abroad and I just put updates about our trips and anything fun or at least I think worth sharing with family and friends. Sometimes I post a few times a month and other times it's a month between posts.
You have some great stories that you have posted here so I imagine you would have lots of good material for a blog.
My blog is really just for family and close friends to stay posted on our travels and experiences while living abroad, so it's nothing exciting.
But I would urge you to be careful which blogging site you sign with, as some retain not only a license (which is necessary for them to post your work), but also copyright. That means if you ever did decide to publish, you'd have to (potentially) pay them for a license for your work.
I blog about James or home life mainly, but then I haven't blogged in about 6 months so I am not the person to answer you.
This is the blog of a SA Mom that I love - thought you might find her a bit amusing.
This is basically my blog.
I think all of these answers will depend on what you want to get out of your blog. I blog for three main reason.
1) I like it. For me, it's just another hobby.
2) It's a very easy way to stay in touch with friends and family back home. My mom especially loves my blog because it makes her feel like she is getting to watch Milo grow up.
3) I hope that when Milo is older, he'll enjoy looking back our our early lives.
Why don't you just start one and see what you think?
I put a bunch of random stuff on there: travel stories, music videos, and lots of things that are different in Spain than they are at home. Basically, things I think my family and folks back home might find interesting. My daily life is pretty boring, and what's not boring is school related and I'm not willing to post that online. I try to balance what's appropriate to put online (in terms of privacy issues) and things that might be interesting to read.
So on my blogging boards I have learned many people go in just writing for themselves and friends and it explodes. So as said above, make sure you use a platform which will not own your work. Also it's best to own your domain from day one. I bought mine last night.
Another tip I read is write many posts before starting so when you do start you have many and don't have to worry about what to write.
I think you have a million stories and a great way of telling a day to day story.
I'll link you in my blog!

Well, if LRB thinks her blog is like spaghetti dinner, then I love spaghetti dinner. Seriously, its a great blog. I would blog more if I thought I could be even 15% as interesting.
And Tofu, I can guarantee I'd like your blog just as much.
I have a blog but I haven't updated it in probably a year or more. And the name of it would need to be changed as it excludes Evelyn. Maybe this winter I'll work on that! I've been bad about keeping up on hobbies. I keep trying things but nothing sticks...
I started a blog when I moved abroad so that family could keep in touch. Most of my family is on FB now but for those that aren't, they go to my blog. I only have family view it and it's sort of my venting ground since a lot of what I say cannot be said on FB since my mil can see FB hahaha.
I used to keep my blog updated fairly often, now I update it when something worth talking about it happening or if I have loads of new pictures or videos to show off. I just can't be bothered at the moment a lot of the time b/c I just don't have the time.
Thanks J!
And you should start again! I think you would have tons of interesting things to blog about. Books, green stuff, life in MA, how your expat DH is doing, your kids, cooking/baking, pictures, etc. I'd read it again for sure!
Random is totally fine as a format - it means that people can dip in whenever they want to read something funny and not need a massive backstory.
I would think about who your audience is (or who you want it to be) and write 'to' them. Imagine you are having a conversation with them and write from there.
I write as if I've clearly had a few too many at the pub.... it's a bit sweary.
I used to have a blog (called Northern Exposure) but my mum started making awful comments on it and so I shut it down. I've had the new one for nearly 3 years and she hasn't found it - hurrah! I also never use real names on mine because when you go for job interviews, people tend to google you. And I don't want their first impression of me to be a foul mouthed so and so..
