Okay, I'm at the laptop now and can get into more detail...cuz that's just what you all wanted. I gave the abridged version on Facebook.
She's impacted again, which is a form of chronic constipation. So obviously I asked, why does she keep getting impacted? Apparently, the first 2 times she was impacted our pediatrician had us treat her with laxatives for a week to clean her out, and that was it. Which, normally, would be enough. But because when she was impacted her colon was so stretched from all the poop, the muscles and nerves weakened, which means she can't sense when she has to poop. And apparently the colon, when stretched, does lean up against the bladder, causing her not to sense when she has to pee.
The colon never had a chance to recuperate because her system went back to normal after a week. Which is why he's having us do 6-8 months...so as to keep the colon nice and empty, thereby giving it time to go back down to size and for the muscles to react properly and give her the normal sensations.
But it takes a while for the colon to recover. Only doing the laxative treatment for 1 week was not enough time.
So that's the whole explanation. Even though she is pooping, she technically is constipated. He took an xray and you can see, she had poop near the end of her colon, but she also had it back further up where there should normally be no poop. Quite literally, she has clogged drains that move slowly!!
I'm just so glad that it's not her being stubborn. That would have been so much harder to deal with in the long term. But of course it makes me feel badly about the times that I would get frustrated at her. I always felt in the back of my mind that it wasn't her "fault", but man, it's so tough dealing with it up to 10 times a day when you KNOW she can do it. My poor babe!!
