DS was circ'd and we are watching closely because the pedi and I agree that maybe just a little more foreskin should have been removed. We are hoping that DS kind of "grows into things." If we were to do more surgery it would be for a cosmetic result, and with general anesthesia I'm not sure I want to take that risk.
Anyone have experience with this? I still don't regret getting him circumsized, but I don't want him to be miserable if we have to redo things. It makes me mad because a resident did the circ and I wish I would have insisted the OB did it. I feel like I didn't get a lot of choice because I delivered with midwives who can't do the procedure.
Re: Another post about a penis :)
Yes! Same thing happened to DS2. At first my pedi tried to tell me he was chubby, but um, I have another peen to compare it to, and yeah, they're different. Plus, he's in the 30% for weight, so it's not like he's a Fatty McButterpants.
It wasn't a huge deal, but she did finally tell me the exact same thing about the original circ not getting it all. He still might grow into it? Maybe? Hopefully?
I'm not going to worry about it now. I have age 3 in my head as the last age where you can do scary medical things without them remembering. That's my cut off for deciding what we want to do about his spot, and I suppose we'll evaluate his penis options then too.
Kaeden's was revised at 4 years old. Surgery in the morning, playing as if nothing had happened in the afternoon. Personally I wish we would have taken care of it sooner, but the Pedi said it would correct itself and to give it time - we addressed it at pretty much every well visit. A second opinion from a urologist confirmed that it was far worse than just extra skin and that it needed to be fixed ASAP.
As a side note...we never knew what it should have looked like when he was that little. We trusted that the OB did it correctly and that our Pedi was right. We chose to see a urologist after I had a conversation with another mom(same OB) talking about having a plastic surgeon repair her son's circ because of how bad it was. After talking to her more about the "before" it was clear that we need to have him seen. Should have trusted our gut!

Not at all actually. We didn't have an issue with regression, wearing of underwear, the rubbing of the incision(it was a complete circle)...not a single thing.
The doctor assured us before surgery that at this age they bounce right back and are likely to never realize what happened. Also, that it would bother us more than him; he was right. Kade acted as if nothing had happened. It looked awful - worse than the initial circ, but it never affected him. He had a follow-up appointment at 1 week and aside from the scar being fairly pink, it was completely healed.
