Stressed about Alopecia (women)
Hi Everyone,
I'm 22 and have alopecia, I'd say about 1/3+ of the hair on my head fell out including my eyebrows and some eyelashes so I go out with my head shaved or with those beautiful yet annoying wigs. I moved to minnesota over a year ago with my husband, so the only people I know are my co-workersand his friends - don't get me wrong their wives are great but I'm looking for something else.
The reason I'm posting...
Are there any group get togethers for people that suffer this condition here in MN?
Re: Stressed about Alopecia (women)
Hello. Welcome to Minnesota. I don't know of any alopecia groups. Have you looked at meetup.com?
My husband was diagnosed with alopecia when he was 15. By college (when we met) he had lost most of the hair on his head and wore a hair piece. In high school and college DH suffered a lot of anxiety/depression/stress due to the alopecia. A year or two out of college, DH made the decision to give up the hair piece and just shave his head, which helped with some of the stress/anxiety.
I can't say that I know what you have experienced, I do think alopecia affects women differently than men, but I know what my husband has been through. Feel free to PM me if you would like to talk.
This looks like a good starting point:
