Kitchen Question

Hi girls!  We are in the process of doing a few things to spruce up our kitchen.  My parents are giving us their old stove and microwave (score!), but my main question is about the refrigerator.  We are planning on moving sometime in the next few years, so this isn't our forever house and we are trying to keep spending minimal.  But, knowing kitchens help sell houses, I'm wondering what your opinions are.

If you were buying a house, would you rather have a fridge with a freezer on the bottom and no ice/water in the door (this is our current one) or would you rather have a side by side fridge/freezer with ice/water in the door?  I would love a french door one, but due to space constraints, it won't fit in our kitchen.

Thanks for your input!!

Re: Kitchen Question

  • I responded on D&R - water/ice in the door are a must in our house!  :)

  • I love having a bottom freezer that is a pullout drawer!

  • I, too, prefer french but of the two you asked about side by side because of the ice/water in the door. We use it CONSTANTLY! :)

  • I absolutely HATE side by side fridges, unless they are french door.  The middle divider takes up SO much room that it's not a very effective use of space IMHO.  I would rather have the freezer in the bottom.  Or I would just get my own fridge after I moved in.

  • I would rather have your current one. When we bought our house, it had a side-by-side refrigerator and we HATED it. Part of me was sad to see it die. It was nice having ice in the door, but I don't miss it. Even though it was huge, it seemed like it didn't hold anywhere near as much as our new one, which is just a plain jane top-freezer model.
  • DH & I both prefer the freezer on the bottom -- though I think we may be in the minority on that. Interesting to hear how others feel...
  • We bought a fridge with a bottom freezer when we moved in and I LOVE it. I would have a hard time going back to anything else.
