Morning everyone

So, what's on the agenda today?  Any exciting plans this week?

QOTD:  What's your favorite item in your house?

Re: Morning everyone

  • Hey everyone.  Not much planned for today, just hoping for a manicure and then maybe the gym.  Unfortunately, we need to find this person's number as their hours are just if/when people call.  It's so weird - closed all week then open at 10:30pm on a Sunday.  So if you don't have their number, even if you live next door, you may never find them in order to tell them you'd like a manicure.

QOTD:  Our memory foam mattress pad.  Not sure I could sleep on the crappy mattresses without it - and my back would feel horrible.

  • Good Morning!  Today my job is to find a place for us to go on H's long weekend.  He says Germany, but we'll see.  No big plans for the week.  I really need a haircut so I might try to find a place.

QOTD: My pillow and my down comforter.   They are so comfortable.

  • Good morning!

I have just finished an early dinner (turkey burger on naan bread with sweet onion-chili marmalade and a baked sweet potato) and I am about to head in to clean up the kitchen.

This week's agenda is mainly housecleaning after being away the end of last week housesitting.  I have to run to the grocery tomorrow for some necessities and I should hear by the end of the week if I got a call-back for the job I applied for.  I'm not really thinking I will, it's a real estate solicitor's office and my experience is in insurance defense, but I am still sort of anxious to hear if I made the interview cut.  So the week should be spent quietly waiting and doing busy work.

QOTD:  a toss up between my bed -- I have the best gel mattress! and my sofa -- a purple sectional with a chaise on the end.  It was my wedding present from my grandfather and I love it; it's just right for both DH and I to stretch out on and it's almost as good as my insomnia-cure couch I had to leave in the US for sleeping.

  • Just working today!  And hopefully going to the gym.

    QOTD:  My pillow.

  • Morning! I got an unexpected reprieve today because a meeting was cancelled, meaning I don't have to spend a couple of hours commuting. Bonus time! It's much-needed too because FIL is in town, and while that's great, I've been spending nearly 100% of my waking time with him, and I could use some 'me' time.

Emily, if your H is set on Germany, may I recommend Heidelberg? I went last June with my DH, my sis, and a friend, and we all really enjoyed it. It's a romantic and lovely city, and the sort where you don't feel rushed as you walk around. There's a castle to explore (with gardens), you can take a cruise on the River Neckar, or enjoy wandering through the Aldstadt. We had wonderful food and just really nice people the whole time.

We did side trips to Strasbourg and Baden-Baden, and also enjoyed those. In Baden-Baden, we hiked back to see a waterfall on the Panoramaweg trail.

QOTD:  Probably either a blanket my mom made me, or this fabulous couch I'm sinking into right now.

  • ooolala, thanks so much! I'm going to look into your suggestions.
  • Morning, the sun is finally back after weeks of clouds, which almost makes it up for being Monday...

QOTD: Our bed. Aside from the house itself, it was probably the best investment we've ever made. Only issue is that we're spoilt and need to sleep in fancy hotels when on hols...

  • Morning everyone!

WE're on for a quiet, but hopefully productive, week. I need to get W's hair cut, keep up with shopping, get our house on the market, and do some play dates. We're in serious birthday party season and it's insane - at least 2 a weekend until the end of the month. Our bank account just can't cope... :(

Today is just a play date. I say 'just' in the hope that 3 just-3 year olds and their baby brothes and sisters and mums don't wreak too much havok in our tiny house!

QOTD: Hmm. This is tough. If I can be vague, I'd say photos. I love looking at our framed photos every day. If we were in a fire, and I were organised, after our kids, given the opportunity, that's what I'd grap: photos on a flash drive.

As an aside, I HATE our bed. It's Ikea and cheap and nasty. I want another bed, but we're sentimentally attached to our Ikea bed frame (wedding present money-funded) so as long as we're stuck on the bed frame, we're stuck wtih Ikea mattresses...

I had an Ikea mattress in Dubai and thought it was quite nice.  Maybe you can upgrade to one of their nicer mattresses?

  • Morning.  This week is quiet.  Just working.  Although I do have a Chiro appt tomorrow.  I hope I like him.  My lower back is killing me.  And Delta starts obedience training on Wednesday.

H is still kind of pouting over "losing" our first major disagreement.   What was it about you ask?  The census, of all things. He doesn't want to fill it out and give the gov't too much information (I've heard that attitude from several people).  My feeling is fill the dang thing out, and if the gov't sees that there are more than 100 hippies living up here, we might get eventually hooked up to the council sewer system instead of using the septic tank.  Once we get hooked to the sewer, I can get my garbage disposal (yes, that's a stretch, but let me dream).   He "lost" because I told him to go ahead and throw the form out, as I can just go online and fill it out anyway.

QOTD:  on a superficial note.  My A/C and clothes dryer.  On a sentimental note,  (aside from H and the dog) the few little nick knacks we picked up along our travels.

DH and I argued over the census as well.  He wants to fill it out on paper and I told him we can just go online and fill it out.  He answered the door when the census worker came by and arranged with her for her to come pick it up on the 10th.  So I lost that one.

Interesting that your DH is complaining about giving the government too much information.  I found the form much less intrusive than the long-form census I had the last time in the US.  Really, I fail to see what the number of flush toilets there are in my house  has to do with a count of people.  The only thing I object to on this form are the income questions.  It's none of their business; besides, they have that information in the tax office, if they really need it, they can get it there.

  • Good morning! This week I must, must, must get back into working out properly. I've been unfocussed for weeks and it's really becoming a problem. The Festival is getting geared up this week so I'm going to be really busy from Friday so I'm hoping to have a good week this week!

QODT: Our quilt. DH's grandmother makes handmade quilts for her grandchildren for a wedding gift and since we were together so long and she knew me, I got to pick out the colours and pattern. We absolutely love it - it took up most of a suitcase when we moved over and I didn't mind that at all (we had a rolling suitcase we carried on with the quilt and DH's xbox!)

  • Morning everyone!  Nothing much going on this week...just work.  But, my boss is out, so that means it'll be reasonably quiet this week and next.

QOTD:  My bed and pillows, hands down.  We bought this awesome memory foam mattress and pillows back in the States, and it's heaven.  The sucker weighs 200 lbs (just the mattress), but I don't care...I'm taking that thing with me regardless of where we end up.

If there are lots and lots of flush toilets, they will connect the town to the sewer system!   Or upgrade the sewer system.  Or do something that will get me off a septic system so I can have a garbage disposal again.

The income questions don;t bother me, since they are ranges and not asking for exact dollar amounts

I seriously don't know what H's problem with the census is.

Yup, I don't understand worrying about giving the government too much information.  They already have SO MUCH, and if they wanted, they could probably get more.  I don't know if you guys use any of the sites with credit card info saved or anything like that, but seriously there is a lot of info out there that we don't know about.  Filling out a short questionnaire where you know exactly what information you are giving (not to say they don't/can't get more) is really not the thing to worry about!

  • Nothing too exciting to be honest.  It's going to be a quiet week, which is good after such busy ones in the past.

QOTD: My foam mattress is also my fav.  I sleep so well in it.

I like pineapples...they make life just so much more interesting.
  • Good morning ladies.  I have been ordered by my mil and bil to take it easy and do whatever I want, that they'd take care of everything.  I am SO thankful that things haven't been as bad as anticipated with mil.  She's actually been really cool.  So, phew, if this keeps up it'll make for a very nice and smooth week.  Leo has been dragging my bil all around lol.  It's hilarious.  I have hardly seen him all morning.

The only plan I have is to have this baby! lol  Other than that, I just made a lunch/coffee date with a friend assuming neither one of us goes into labor by Wednesday.

QOTD:  After our wedding my sister had my bouquet and dh's boutennier (sp?) preserved and made into a really pretty wall hanging that surrounds our wedding invitation.  I love that.

  • morning, nothing much going on today, but this week is getting a bit more full.

I'm super looking forward to Wednesday (my mum's group) and Thursday (one of my best friends is coming to see us and I finaly get to meet her husband after they've been together for 5 years!)

QOTD: My lights over the breakfast bar. They look like Campbell's soup cans!

  • Mostly just relaxing today. I only woke up about half and hour ago. I have to go do a few errands and figure out my grocery delivery. My MIL is coming on Saturday so I have some work for my job in the US to do before then and I have one day of work here tomorrow.

QOTD: An end table that my MIL made for us out of a piece of tree from my DH's childhood home.  It has pictures of the two of us from when we were little until when we got married on it.

  • Same old...trying to entertain a 2.5 year old in the rain.

QOTD:  I love my Senseo....or did until it died.  Granted, I LOVE good coffee, but my electric Bodum vacum is 110v, so that stayed home.

Being on a perpetual diet, flavored coffee has become my sweets substitute.  So I am looking to replace my Senseo.

  • I'm sort of new here (introduced myself quite some time ago), but thought I might chime in, as it is my first Monday in Brussels.  We arrived Friday, so this week will be spent getting settled.  I spent my morning running errands with two little girls, which nearly killed me.  One little girl screamed the entire time we were in the store, a mouse ran under my feet (literally) in the produce section, making me and other little girl jump out of our shoes (almost) and then I nearly got lost going home because the one road I know was closed for street paving.  We may attempt a walk this afternoon if I recover, since the sun has appeared today for the first time since we arrived.

QOTD:  Since all my 'stuff' is either in an air container or a sea container at the moment, the one thing in this house right now that is my favorite is the stove/oven that sold this house to us.  It is huge!  I was really dreading having to learn to cook in something smaller then what I was use to at home.

  • Expat, I kind of regret not doing something like that with my bouquet.  We did try to dry it out but it pretty much looks like crap.  My parents have it at their house in a box.

Chelbel, That end table sounds really awesome!
