I was talked into entering a few quilts in our county fair's open class, and after entering those, I talked to a lady who runs a quilt show through the DAR at the high school, and she encouraged me to enter some more quilts.
Holy cow, I raked it in! I got second in the crib quilt category at the DAR quilt show, and I got a nice prize packet of several patterns, thread, a cookbook, and some Sulky lit. Then over at the open class, all three of my quilts got blues (the highest ribbon group), and my prize packet included an 18x24" Olfa cutting mat, two rotary cutters (a bigger one and then the teeny one), a book (Sew & Stow), a pack of 10 Michael Miller fat eighths, 2 spools of Gutermann thread, two rulers, and some more patterns.
Plus, all over town I was stopped by people telling me my quilts were amazing. It really boosted my confidence and I met a ton of people! I got invited to go sew with the Quilt Guild (just a matter of finding a sitter
) and I was asked to be involved in the 4H sewing next year. Plus one lady said, "You need to come out to my house and quilt my quilts on my long arm, this is way better than I could dream of doing!"

Great job!!!
Helping the 4H kids sew sounds incredibly exciting! I know that my school didn't place a lot of emphasis on sewing during Home-Ec in 8th grade (made a pillow) and there was no Home-Ec requirement for high school. It's such a satisfying hobby and I think it's wonderful that you have an opportunity to help pass it down to younger generations!

My Valentine Bookends (2~13~13, 2~15~09)
What validation!!!!
We, here, already knew your talent and were already impressed...I was honored that you started to follow my Pinterest...because I know how talented you are! (which in turn made me feel validated..)
But for you to get that from strangers and people you respect .. wow!!
The prizes aren't bad either!!! What colors were the fat eighths? Any idea what you might do with them?
Can you PIP the quilts that you had in the show??
Can you get over that a woman, who owns a longarm, said that!?! Impressive!
Congrats!!
I am totally blushing right now.
The fat eights were all Michael Miller polka dots. All totally cute, and I plan on scrapping them up for some variation in my scrap bins (5", 3.5", and 2" squares). I might leave them whole for a while, but the next few projects are big ones that are very much so already thought out as far as fabric goes. And after these two, I'm not sure where I'm going.
I tried to take decent pictures of the quilts, and I'll do a big blog post/AW soon. I'm a 4H leader and the last week with Fair really wore me out. Not to mention my parents were in town all week.
And HELLO! I know! I think it's one of those things where she has the money, so why not? And I guess her daughter uses it some, but she doesn't do a whole lot of quilting.
