Last night, my girlfriends and I decided we were going to go to the beach at Point Pleasant in NJ today. The friend who was driving lives 7 or 8 houses up the block. I went to my driveway this morning at 7am to wait for her (so we could beat traffic). I saw that two houses down there were some people in the street and some cars. It looked not normal for 7am.
Next thing we saw, two police cars joined the group, and when she came and got me and drove by we saw that all the cars were detective and state troopers. We knew something was wrong.
The family who live there are close friends of my parents and close friends of my friend who was drivings parents. An hour or two on the road we found out sad sad news.
The parents and their daughter were in SC, and the 23 year old son stayed home because he had to work. He had a party last night, ended up getting into his fathers room, found his fathers gun (his dad is retired PD), and was playing around with it. Somehow, there was a terrible accident, and he ended up shooting his friend and killing him. It was a case of 23 year old boys drunk and being careless and it ended in tragedy.
I cannot believe this happened, and that it happened so close to me. It is so out of character for this kid to have something like this happen, and I am just in shock. Two families are ruined because of some drunken mistakes, no one should ever have to go through this. I feel terrible for this family, who are on their way back from SC right now, and even worse for this family who have lost their son. My brother is the same age and was out at a party last night (not the same one), and I can't even imagine if this happened to him.
Ugh. Just Terrible. I am still processing this but all my neighbors are so devastated I can't even really talk to them yet.

Horrible...I hate when things like that happen. Such an unnecessary tragedy. That poor family...
How awful....many T&P to all involved.
