Help - broken AC! Need repair suggestions

DH and I just returned from a 10 day trip to California to find that our heat pump broke sometime while we were away so our house is 93 degrees and we have no AC. We live in Sterling, VA - we have been calling around to repair companies but no luck so far. May have to wait until tomorrow to get someone out here. Does anyone have any recommendations for repair companies that service Virginia? I have never been without AC in the summer so this is completely uncomfortable and we hope to get it fixed ASAP. Luckily, our dogs are with the in-laws and can stay there until we get this resolved, and we both have jobs that have AC thank god but it's going to be awful at home until this is fixed. This makes me really miss San Francisco where it was 65 degrees!

  • We have an annual service contract with R&B and have been happy with their service so far. http://www.rbincorporated.com/

  • try united air temp. when i lived in ashburn we called them a few times and they were always great. good luck!
  • We have had great luck with Richard's Air. They are based in Falls Church, but I believe that they service all of NOVA. Good luck!!
  • We had a great experience with ARS (http://www.ars.com). They replaced our whole system earlier this year for a great price.

  • We love http://www.neighborhoodhvac.com/. They came out on a Saturday night at 7 last summer when our AC broke and have been really helpful with our really old unit. You usually have to leave a message, but they always call us back right away.
  • I live in Sterling and Mann-In replaced our whole system last summer.  They are great.  My whole family has service contracts with them.  They are highly rated on Angie's List.
  • Thanks so much for all of your replies! Luckily, DH was able to get a hold of a company called Snell that he found late last night on our HOA website, and they were able to come out this morning. Turns out the capacitor was blown, and thank GOD they had a new one with them and replaced it and our heat pump is working like new!  I had the most miserable night - I think we both slept about 2 hours total, but the AC is working now so tonight should be much better.
