Granwich finalists list

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - And then there were 10.

A panel of judges will determine this Saturday the winner of the Grandwich competition -- Grand Rapids restaurants creating a sandwich that will be synonymous with the city.

Nicole Infante, who presented in the March 5x5 panel, came up with the signature sandwich contest.

"The ultimate goals of the competition are to support local business, to put Grand Rapids on the culinary map, and, in general, to taste a lot of different and delicious sandwiches," Infante said in a news release.

For two weeks, the participating restaurants put their sandwiches on their menus giving the public the opportunity to vote for their favorite. Now the Top 10 restaurants have been chosen --

  • Grand Central Market
  • The BOB -- Bobarinos
  • Skywalk Deli
  • 25 Kitchen + Bar
  • Saint Mary's Health Care
  • Peppinos
  • Greenwell Gastro Pub
  • Hopcat
  • Omelette Shoppe
  • Rico's Deli

The finalists will hand out samples of their sandwiches during the judging competition on Saturday from 1-3 p.m. at Rosa Parks Circle. The public can attend with admission being a donation to the Kids' Food Basket -- either monetary or an item on the Kids' Food Basket wish list

Re: Granwich finalists list

  • I had the Grandwich at the BOB. It was awesome.

It's great that there is a charity element to this.

It's great that there is a charity element to this.

Kids Food Basket got very lucky in getting some key supporters in the area from early on. It is the "It" charity with the local  "in the knows" and bigwigs.

  • I love this contest - for the emphasis on local food and the charity aspect.

We didn't get to try any of the Granwiches, however.  Bummer, because I'm sure they are all delicious.

  • So is anyone going on Saturday?

  • I didn't get to try any either, since we were gone for most of the contest time. The Press reported today that some of the top 10 places aren't even serving their own finalist sandwich this week (St. Mary's and Skywalk)! That seems really stupid, especially because St. Mary's was on my list to definitely try. I'd love to try everything on Saturday, but it's the big Coast Guard Festival day out in Grand Haven, and that takes priority for us. Wish the scheduling could have worked out better for that.
