Re: dance moms
this show kind of brings back lots of crazy memories...i did competitive dance when i was growing up and it was very, very obsessive. i was an alternate on teh team and they actually needed me the whole year and i got totally yelled at for missing a competition in Cleveland. yeah, i was IN THE HOSPITAL with pneumonia.
when i was younger, my girlfriend adn i got yelled at backstage for "ruining the entire recital" with our tan lines. yep. pretty sure we were 8.
Uh... yeah. WTF is wrong with parents. I mean really... I know these shows highlight the extreme, but still - you know they are out there. I am terrified of putting the girls in any activities because I don't want them to run across other kids/parents who are like this.
yeah...i can't wait to deal with crazy sports parents. i remember when H played adult league hockey...omg seirously some of the adults' parents came to the games and acted nutso!
the only real activity that i've done with Bennett is his music class, which he LOVES. one session there was a super cliquey group of moms (one that i went to high school with) and i seriously dreaded going every week. he starts a 1 day a week preschool (with parent...it's more like a playgroup) in september and i really hope there are some decent people in it.
I am LOLing at the adults' parents at the hockey games. ha!
I still haven't interacted much with other parents. Even tho we go to playgroup at least once a week, we tend to go when it's slow (just by chance apparently... we aren't morning people and they are busiest in the morning) and if anything there is maybe one other parent and child there. A SAH-dad and a SAH-grandma (playgroup regulars) seem to agree that quite a few of the other regulars tend to be really clique-ish so I think I will stick to my afternoon outings.
I never did dance so I don't know if this is the norm or not.
Those women are BSC!!!!!!!! Espicially the new one that supposedly own her own studio?
So your own studio isn't good enough for your daughter? Then why would it be good for anyone else's daughter?
Also I'm a big girl so I can call Abbey out. WTH??? How can she teach/preach to this girls when she is as big as a house??
BMW - I had the same thought about the teacher. I'm judgey like that.
I danced competitively as a child for several years. It's true that there are a lot of inappropriate costumes out there. My mom actually chose the studio I danced at partly because they don't use costumes like that - it's even on their website still today - "We strive to keep a wholesome environment for our students. Our costumes and uniforms are always modest. The staff ensures the music selected for classroom use and performances is clean and age appropriate. "
Sad how rare that is.
