He woke up this morning and found he has a small pressure sore. As someone in a wheelchair it is a common but potentially deadly problem (Christopher Reeve died from complications from a pressure sore). Many of you know that 5-7 years ago, when we were engaged, DH was bedbound for days/weeks/months at a time because he had one (and then a 2nd) very badly infected pressure sore. We couldn't go far or for long on our HM because he was still healing. He had to have 2 major surgeries on the area they had to remove dead/infected skin/tissue and replace it with healthy skin/tissue from other areas. They cannot ever do that in the same area again.
This sore is on the other side from where the surgery was but once you have one, it's much more likely you'll get another soon after. We leave the day after tomorrow for our cruise and, of course, he'll have to sit for long stretches over the next few days while we drive or fly before getting to our hotel in NYC. So basically he'll have to stay in bed until we leave home and probably even somewhat while we're in NYC and on the ship. We're bringing an air mattress to put on top of the hotel/ship room bed. Anyway, any good thoughts, prayers, mojo, etc... you can send out for quick healing would be greatly appreciated! Thanks ![]()
8/1 Update: I did hear back from his doctor in the Bay Area and she's writing a prescription for antibiotics for us to pick up in while we're up tomorrow before we fly out of SFO. (Another Update) We're actually flying out of Burbank now so he won't have to sit driving up to the Bay Area anymore. And we have another day to get ready, too. It is looking a lot better already actually. I've never seen one improve so much so quickly so it must be all those prayer, thoughts, vibes and mojo you all are sending out! Thanks so much!

Thanks! It's not something that can wait to be dealt with unfortunately. If we did, it would get infected for sure and infected pressure sores are deadly. He feels fine, except upset about getting it. If it does get infected, he runs a fever and (sorry TMI) the wound will get an odor. When they had to cut the infected wound out and chip at the deadened bone (from the infection going that far down) he felt some discomfort after the surgery but not real pain because of his paralysis below the waist.
ETA: I emailed his doctor from SR about it. We'll see what she says. She checks her email frequently.

Sending you all the good thoughts I have for the day. But it sounds like your husband is blessed with a very competent and caring wife that understands what needs to be done to help him heal. I hope all our good mojo reaches him well and he gets the antibiotics and rest he needs so that you both can enjoy the cruise.
PS-Definitely check in with the cruise dock as soon as you can. Our family friend works on cruises when he's not a trauma doc in Oakland and appreciates it when he knows the situation before anything can happen.
Aw, Crap!
That sucks. I'm really hoping and praying that it starts healing immediately and you get to enjoy the cruise. (((hugs)))
