HELP ME!! Tell me about Boston
I have a friend who is up for a potential job transfer to Boston. She's never been, neither have I. We have a trip planned for Labor Day weekend, but before we go ... tell me about Boston.
She's in her late 20's and single. What do young professionals do? Where do they hang out? Is there a specific part of town to look at, perhaps to avoid? Her office would be on State Street (zip 02109) ... if that means anything to you.
Thanks for your help, the more information she has the better decision she can make.
Thanks!
Re: HELP ME!! Tell me about Boston
I'm not sure exactly what you're looking for. Yuppies do the same thing here that they'd do in any big city. There are bars, clubs, sports (both pro teams to watch and sports you can participate in), great restaurants, theater, skiing/snowboarding in the states a little north of us, great areas to visit all over New England and a quick trip to NY, etc.
State St. is close to Fanueil Hall, Downtown Crossing, and you could even walk over to Chinatown.
Boston is a great place to live, though she'd have to get used to our winters.
Yeah, specific questions would be helpful. But as Rock said, there's plenty to do here for a young professional. The nice thing about Boston is that it's a city, but the neighborhoods make it feel like a smaller town. And yes, we b*tch about the public transportation here, but it's usually pretty reliable. State Street is pretty centrally located, so she'd have a decent amount of options to commute from when looking for apartments.
She could check out the Boston Young Professionals Association for meetup/event ideas.
