How is your garden doing this year?
My basil never came up, but I planted cilantro in it's place and it's coming up perfectly.
My Roma's are ripe, but small this year. They taste good and will work fine for salsa, so no complaints here! I have an over abundance!
My green beans did awesome, but the bugs have taken over despite my attempts at sprinkling that stuff on to sway them away.
My jalapenos are huge this year and took off right away.
My green bell peppers have a couple flowers and are tall and healthy, but still no peppers! I'm hoping they will just be late bloomers.
And my pear tree (not gardening related) is doing great, I can't wait until they are ready! Yum!
Re: Gardeners
We (::cough:: The Husband) only ended up planting tomatoes and cucumbers and they're just not doing so hot. We have two tomato plants doing really well (the rest keep wilting and coming back - rinse & repeat) but have YET to see a ripe tomato. Our cuke plants recently got bugs so we (H) had to sprinkle repellent on them. They are producing a little.
I've heard it's not been a great year for gardens from others. Glad your stuff's doing (mostly) well!
We have a TON of eggplant but are now having a bug problem
We are getting decent tomatoes, basil, and cilantro
We are just NOW starting to see cucumbers growing, okra, and cantalope
Our pumpkin plants are going NUTS, like, taking on the fence, the garden, etc...They are mutant.
My tomato plants are huge and full of fruit, green beans are already finished off, cucumbers never made it out of the gate, carrots are doing well but I probably should have thinned them earlier, jalapeno plants are small but producing fruit, so that is good, same with banana peppers. Lettuce is already done and over, peas were taken over with a weed that vines and strangles them, too little work on my part. my SILs peppers and tomatoes are doing great, her pumpkins are growing so-so and her sweet corn is tiny and is kind of a bust. This was the first year really having a garden for both of us (we planted it at her house) so we definitely have some better ideas for keeping the weeds at bay and how to stake things etc. for next year.
I know we will for sure do the green beans/peas different. Someone told me it was beneficial to plant potatoes in with your green beans, the when they are done mid summer dig up the new potatoes and pull the beans and plant again so you get two harvests. I might try that. I'll also plant more lettuce and a bigger variety of peppers/tomatoes.
We didn't plant as much this year because I didn't want to get too overrun with produce between our garden and our CSA share.
We do have a few things, though. Our cherry and other tomatoes are doing really well. We have had 3 eggplants just from one plant, so that has been great. DH picked the first 4 green peppers from our 2 plants last night, and our basil is going crazy. I'm excited to make some egg frittatas with the tomatoes and green pepper, and lots of pesto.
Basil took forever to come up, but is doing ooo-kay, but not great.
Tomatoes were planted late and are just now coming to.
Banana peppers and jalapenos are growing well.
Rosemary bit it.
Mint is doing well.
Green beans and snap peas did pretty well and are pretty much done.
Tomato plant is huge but no red tomatoes yet.
Have had a few green bell peppers and jalapenos so far.
TTC #1 since 08/11 IUI#2 = BFP!
Sugar snap peas did pretty well, considering I started them really late. I'll plant them again in the fall.
Green beans aren't doing anything anymore, and have been eaten apart by bugs. I did get two good servings from them.
The tomato plants are growing tall, one of them has tomatoes and we've picked a couple. The other one has flowered, but no tomatoes yet.
The pepper plants look the same as they did when I planted them. I don't think I'll get anything from them.
The cucumbers are growing all over the place, and there are a ton of baby cucumbers. I'm not sure what we're going to do with all of them, I don't eat cucumbers!
The strawberry plants and watermelon never came up.
the heat has been bad for us this year.
bleh.
We kept it small this year. Our basil is going nuts again but cilantro and thyme didn't do a thing.
We have TONS of serrano peppers and our greeen peppers should be ready in a week or two. We have at least 10 now.
We're slowly getting more and more tomatoes.
I haven't checked our carrots and our onions appear to have failed.
We had a few strawberries early on but nothing since. Boo.
love is for every her, love is for every him, love is for everyone
I did 3 topsy turvy things, one with cherry tomatoes which is doing good but have only picked one red tomato off of. The others are still green yet. The other TT has big tomatoes and I think there was only one on there
still not ripe. The last TT has orange bell peppers and again, i've only seen on pepper starting. Up on the deck I have banana and Jalepeno peppers planted in 5 gal bucket and a big pot. I don't remember which is which. One is doing well but has nothing growing on it yet. I keep wondering just where the pepper will come from. Plus with the heat, it wilts mid afternoon and i have to water the shiit out of it everyday just to make it bounce back. The other pepper only grew about half of the seeds we planted and still nothing on it either.
I mostly did this for Owen so he could see the veg. grow. He's having fun watching but we aren't very good gardeners i don't think
