Beach Rec's

Hi Ladies:

My friend and I are thinking of planning a weekend at the beach for a couple's getaway in September.  Where do you recommend? We would prefer to stay in a hotel either on the boardwalk, or not far from the beach.

And go....  Smile

**I should clarify:  We would like something relatively close to PA for driving reasons...MD, NJ, etc.**

Re: Beach Rec's

  • I love the beaches in St. Petersburg, FL on the Gulf Coast.  I may be biased because my brother lives there, but we always have a great time when we go.  We stayed on Treasure Island the last time and it was perfect.  Fort Desoto is a beach not far from there that used to be ranked #1 as far as beaches go.

  • we stayed on Clearwater Beach last fall when we were going to Tampa for a wedding and I definitely recommend it.  We had a great time and it's a beautiful area.

I agree.  Clearwater is a very nice beach.  Especially since that's where the Phil's go for Spring Training.  Clearwater/Tampa is about a 45 minute drive from my brother's house in Florida.

I edited my original post to clarify that we are looking for someplace within a couple hour drive from PA.

  • Tropicana in AC is good. I would think that in Sept the rates would be a little cheaper b/c of the weather. You can walk to the mall on the pier and to the outlets. There are also a few beach bars by the hotel.

In that case, it might be too far out of your range, but you should check out Misquamicut Beach in RI.

  • What about rehobeth or bethany beach in delaware? Never stayed in a hotel bc my aunt lives there but the beaches are nice.
  • Have you thought about the Erie islands (like Put-in-Bay area). Spend a weekend on the island, golf cart around, wine taste, bar hop....

My friend suggested Rehobeth...her family stays in a certain hotel on the boardwalk there...we were just looking for other options as well.

  • My suggestion is to go to Bethany Beach and stay at the Sea Colony. I really love it there! The beach isn't crowded like OCMD or Rehobeth (sometimes). It's secluded and nice, but it's still within a very short drive to Rehobeth for when you want to have things to do.
