Hey! I have mastered the basic knit and purl stitches... Where do I go from there? I want to learn to make sweaters, hats, etc... Problem is, I don't know how to go about it. What resources did you all use to learn and master knitting? TIA!

this.
EDIT: and free patterns from the purlbee and lion brand.
Honestly, I basically picked a project I wanted to do and jumped in with both feet. Anything I didn't know how to do, I watched youtube videos and just went for it.
Ditto. I learned things like stranding, cabling, and entrelac by just diving into more advanced projects and searching for the things I didn't know.
I did have a leg up with a knitting class in college (knitting in the round, hats, mittens, etc), but anything more advanced than that, I figured out from googled videos or tutorials.

Thanks so much! I'm glad to know YouTube actually can teach more than the basic knits... I'll check out the other sites as well
I'm a self taught knitter, and learned it before the days of knittinghelp.com. I loved the lionbrand.com website. They have some great tutorials and videos.

Check your library too. Mine has TONS of knitting books. If you have the Dewey Decimal System, the call number for knitting books is 741.6 or something like that.
