how did you get your name and/or how did you pick your child's name?
mine - my mom named me after a character from Gone with the Wind. Since Ashley is a boy in the movie, she changed the y to an a. Not sure why she thought it made it more feminine. my mom and I share the same middle name - Jean
Joel - he's named after my husband's father and deceased brother. My husband and I both like really simple, classic names. In fact, I think we have 4 letter names picked out for all our potential kids if we decide to have more. We went a little unique, but not youneek on his middle name. Since my husband has an Arabic first name, we picked Tariq since it means morning star in Arabic. Ironically, Joel was born at 4:34am, so it worked out well!

Re: how did you get your name and/or how did you pick your child's name?
My first name is just a name my parents liked. I share my mom and grandma's middle name.
I always loved the name Nathanael. Rodgers knew this. I threw out other suggestions, but he knew I had my heart set on Nathanael, and insisted that was it. He's a good man.
We were going to use a Kenyan middle name, but Rodgers wanted to honor his dad (died in 2004; I never met him). We already use Rodgers' dad's given name as our last name, so we chose FIL's favorite "English" name, Joseph, for Nate's middle name.
Baby Brother's first name is a name that Rodgers picked, which I approved of. It's a long name like Nathanael, but we'll probably call him by the short form like Nate. And his middle name will be in honor of my dad.
both of my grandmothers had the same name, same spellings, just in reverse order ( Kathleen Anne and Anne Kathleen -- uber creepy in my opinion ) so to name me Anna Kate was quite simple.
for DH, Erik is just a name that his mom and dad agreed on, I think its from a soap opera. for his middle name, Gideon ( which I lurrrve ) its his great grandfather, who raised his mother, so that was in his honor.
ghost child #1 - assuming its daughter - the first name has Middle Eastern roots ( but common American name as well ) and the middle name is my sisters middle name
ghost child #2 - assuming its a son - the first name is my FILs middle ( also a family name ) and the middle name is my dads first name ( nice and strong )
we really like names that have meaning ( family, heritage ) as opposed to just something we just " like "
My parents decided that my dad would get to pick the first names of their kids, and my mom would get the middle. I'm still not quite sure why my first name is what it is...my mom says it's because my dad liked it, but my dad's never told me why he picked it. Guess I should ask. My middle name is Hawaiian and means something like "Gift from God". I remind my mom of that every time I piss her off.
As for JJ...well, he's got a first name and two middle names. His first name and the first part of his middle name are H's first and middle name. H's first name is his late grandfather's first name, and H's middle name is his late father's middle name...so JJ is named after like, three people, if that makes sense. JJ's second middle name is my dad's middle name.
We haven't even started talking names for any other kiddos, but I have a couple of ideas. I think H has a boy name picked out but won't tell me what it is.
Mom's a Dr. Zhivago fan, and Lara's full name was Larisa Feodorovna Guishar. Mom loved the name Larisa but liked the spelling better with 2 Ses, thought it looked prettier. And I think my middle name just goes well with it. Ann goes well with most first names.
Interestingly, I've never been called Lara as a nickname. It's fine with me, since I'm not a fan of it and it's way too close to Laura, my hellbeast of a maternal grandmother. I've been Riss or Rissy since birth.

I am named after my dad - Steve. My mom's middle name is Jane and mine is Janine.
Will was named after Kevin's grandfather's William (Bill) and Henry (Hank) and my great grandfather William Henry. I love that we were able to combine family names on both sides.
If a future child is a girl, then her middle name will be Jane. Future boy will have my maiden name as his middle name.
Little Derelle is a junior, so he has DH's full name. I have no idea how ILs came up with hubbys name.
My mom was a fan of the story of King Arthur and briefly considered naming me Guinevere. Thankfully, she realized it would be quite a mouthful with our rather long Spanish last name and decided against it. Then she learned that King Arthur called Guinevere "Jenny", so she named me Jennifer. I'm not sure where my middle name, Ann, came from. To this day she swears that when she came up with my name that it wasn't yet so crazy popular.
DH came up with Amelia's name. After months of throwing out names that had to do with guns or motorcycles he decided to get serious and came up with Amelia. (The ONLY name he contributed.) He was/is totally against naming our kids after family because he doesn't want to deal with trying to make both sides happy. But he wanted the name to mean something, so he looked to women explorers/adventurers. Amelia's name does come from Amelia Earhart, but I wouldn't say she's named after her - it's more like she was the inspiration for the name. We like the name, and DH likes that it has some sort of meaning. He'd like to look to explorers/adventurers for this baby, too. My thoughts are that if he can find another name we like from that list great, but I'm not limiting our search to just that group.
Amelia is going to be a big sister!
I'm named after Miss October 1978, and my middle name Jean is after my father's sister (now deceased)
Greg is named after his deceased father
Piper we found on an iphone app, and Gwen came up when my cousin suggested the middle name Glenn (like Glenn Close)
My parents knew a Kristen and liked the name. My middle name Leann comes combining Leonard (my grandpas name) with Ann (my grandmas middle name).
Margot Roselyn comes from my 2 great grandmothers. It also means pearl and well, I love pearls!! We also both just really loved this name!
I think my parents just liked my first name, so that's how it came to be. My mom had a difficult pregnancy with me, so they gave me the middle name Faith because of their faith that God would get me here safely.
Although I had a relatively easy pregnancy, we prayed for the same and wanted to use my middle name. Emily is my great great great grandmother's name, and it's the only girl name we could agree on

Oh my! I'm assuming your dad got to name you.
Amelia is going to be a big sister!
I thiiink my mom liked Jacqueline Onassis Kennedy and Audrey Hepburn for my sister...but I do believe we were named after someone (first initial) also.
Me, Ava I love the name...A for our grandfathers, Rose for my great grandmother.
My 1st name was easy it was the only name that my parents didnt fight over. I can't say the same for the middle names, they fought so much they gave me two middle names, because Victoria wasn't long enough.
Future child/ren will be family names, a girls name from my side and boys name will be named someway after D...we just can't agree on how yet.
