seriously, i've had possibly the worst 2 weeks of my life. started with the miscarraige and just got worse from there...
so, we've been having an issue in our basement with the ductwork in the ceiling dripping condensation. we have a drop-ceiling down there so the tiles were gettting soaked and ruined. on thursday H took down some more tiles and discovered mold on the floor joists. grrrrrr. had an A/C guy come and he had no clue what was wrong...everything appeared to be functioning properly so he had nothing to tell us.
we had plans to go out of town for the weekend so my dad told me he would handle it. he had someone come over and clean all the mold and get rid of of all the ceiling tiles. we get a call that they have discovered that the floor board in someone of the basement was soaking wet. so we had to find the issue. a friend stopped over and saw it right away...there's a FREAKING HOLE in our house to the outside. basically, there is a bay window in our eat-in kitchen. under the part that bumps out under the window, there is like no floor...so nothing for the wall in the basement to be attached to. if you stick your hand trhough from the basement, your arm goes outside. AWESOME. all the insulation was soaked and had to come down.
so, we get back in town and had to finish up the project...part of our deck has been torn up to get to the hole from the outside. i'm sure that will be cheap to fix. also found a leak in the kitchen sink at 1130pm last night. i seriously threw my hands up in the air and yelled "now what?!"
not to mention the leak in the ceiling we had at the old condo that the upstairs neighbor (who is responsible) doesnt want to pay for.
i want to crawl in a hole and just sleep until this all fixes itself.
Re: can't catch a break
Oh hun I'm sorry. Sometimes when it rains it pours ugh but that just means once you're through all this crap really good things will come your way!
I understand not WANTING to pay but I would NEVER say that to the owners of the condo below me to which I caused damage to their property.
I mean what did they think would happen if they caused flooding that damaged your ceiling?
so basically he called his insurance agent bc he realized it was going ot be $$ to fix the stuff in our condo...and his agent (who also happens to be his nephew) told him he's not responsible. so now, he has it in his head that it's not his problem. WTF?! so when your place leaks into mine, it's MY problem?
good thing my father is an attorney. i'm SO not letting this guy push me around.
That farking sucks. You know my house is a mess so I can definitely commiserate. I honestly feel like it is your inspector's fault for not seeing the hole. That is a huge huge huge thing to miss! I wonder if you can blame the inspector in some way to get them to pay some of it.
Hopefully you are just working the kinks out and everything will settle down soon.
I had no idea how much freaking money I would just POUR into a house once purchased.
Tell your dad to kick your old neighbor's a$$.
Oh man! That really sucks but I totally agree with Cole, when it rains it pours but usually afterwards good things start happening. Hopefully your good comes soon
Oh geez - that's a lot of water stuff! I agree that a hole in the house should have been obvious to the inspector. How was it not wet when the other people lived there? Was there maybe something attached that they removed? If so they're responsible for the hole.
You may want to call your real estate agent and/or the inspector. I hate to say it, but they likely won't do anything about it since there are all these clauses that cover them, but it's worth a call anyway.
Wow!! That is a lot of ish!!!!! I am so sorry. I hope your luck turns soon.
I can't believe the guy above your condo doesnt want to pay to fix it!! GO GET HIM BUCKS DAD!!
Go have a good scream and cry. It usually helps me cope.
I hope it all gets fixed and you can breathe again.
