Husband's company owes him a bunch of money but are holding it until they get security deposit from
Our landlord. Landlord keeps finding damages in our apartment they say
We were hidin from them. We can't buy a car until we get that money.

Have you called your landlord yourself to ask them wtf is up with the wait? I ended up doing that for a friend of mine after she moved back to the US and I got very pissy and told them I'd send a collection agency to them and suddenly they were willing to pay up immediately. Do you have a copy of the walk-through sheet that says it was okay when you left it?
This really is something they apparently do to expats, figuring they left the country so there's no way they'll hire legal help to get their money and if we bully them long enough they'll forget about it.
Could YH's company just give you the money owed minus the deposit and send that part as soon as they received that? That might help you guys our with buying the car at least.
