Another computer question...

I'm so happy the computer talk came up in the post below, as I am also in the market for a new laptop! DH and I have a laptop and a netbook. The netbook is great... we keep it downstairs and use it for checking email, I can open word documents and upload documents to my class website very easily. However, our laptop is running on 8 years and it has been heavily used throughout my last years of undergrad, throughout grad school, and insanely used over the last 2 years of lesson planning, powerpoint creating, and research. It's time for a new one!

We do not have a lot to spend, so I'm keeping with the basics (which will certainly be better than the dinosaur I am using right now!). I'm doing the $699 deal through Dell and getting the Xbox to sell to a friend for $175. Therefore I will be paying $525 (score!)....

The only question is... 14" or 15" screen?? I have a 15" screen right now, but I do want the option of carrying my laptop around the house if need be. I'm so used to the 15" screen that I should just stick with it. Will it be a big adjustment if I do the 14"? What would you get?

Re: Another computer question...

  • If you don't want to spend the money yet you could wipe the hard drive and reinstall the OS. It will get rid of the years of background crap and the computer will run a lot better. Mine is over 6 years old and it runs fine for the type of things you would be using your computer for. Just a thought (as you may find great deals around Black Friday and Christmas).

In terms of 14" vs 15", there really won't be much of a difference portability wise. Go with the 15". I carry my 15" around the house (with one hand/arm) all the time.

Warning No formatter is installed for the format bbhtml
  • Thanks for the advice! I didn't realize that a 14" screen really is a 14" screen, whereas a 15" screen is actually 15.6". I need to go with the 15.6" screen. Unfortunately I have had to wipe out the computer several times and it doesn't last very long. I need something that is reliable and if I wait until Christmas we will already be 3-4 months into the school year. Does Dell really do excellent black friday deals? The $699 computer looks pretty good in terms of specs!
