Does anyone have any experiences with birthing centers or midwives in the area? I am interested in learning about alternative birthing options before I get preggo.
Re: Birthing Centers
There is one just over the line, I heard some iffy things about it though.
Flower is pretty laid back as far as delivery goes too. As much as people love Toledo Hospital and I'm not denying it is a great hospital with an amazing NICU - I would never deliver there, it is a baby factory.
Try to page Susie - her mom is an NP at an OB's office. I believe they are in Sylvania, not sure where they deliver though.
I'm also going to give props to my practice, they are two fabulous women OBs, both young, both VERY laid back, they are like talking to a girlfriend rather than a doctor. Dr. Puckett and Vanuyen. I see Dr. Puckett.
Thanks ladies for the advice!
I was looking at St. Luke's since it is close by and I did get the feeling it is laid back.. plus, they have those birthing pools!
The place over the line has a website that I got to look at and I felt the same way... kind of iffy about it.
And Dr. Vannuyen is my Obgyn. I love her! Although, I haven't really talked to her about birthing options. I just don't want to be "forced" to have a c section or take meds if I don't want to... and hey, maybe I will.
I know this is all premature since I am not pregnant but I like to be prepared. lol.
I would talk to Dr. Vanuyen, they are extremely laid back when it comes to things. I discussed in length with Dr. Puckett my concern for unecessary c-sections and inductions. They don't induce first time moms unless medically necessary because according to her, it sets them up for disappointment and they have a really low c-section rate.
Flower is very similiar to St. Lukes. The nurses were so great about my wanting to try to birth without drugs - I of course took them, but they were sooooo awesome with helping me out before I decided to drug it up, lol. Flower has large birthing suites, a few have tubs. The nurses are great. It is never busy. Love, love, love, love Flower!! My experience was amazing because of my OB and because of Flower. I have no regrets. I send everyone to that practice and haven't heard one complaint

I have 4 children. I have delivered at St. V's w/ my oldest, Toledo Hospital w/ the next one and then St. Lukes w/ the last two.
Having been to all 3 St. Lukes was by far my favorite! I was high risk w/ the last two, especially the last and I felt fully confident in the doctors and services offered. St. Lukes was small, clean and the staff was awesome. I lived in Whitehouse so it of course was super close. One of the best things is the last night you get a awesome steak dinner and lobster bites! They decorate the table and you get a quiet evening with just your dh. It is a great dinner and not gross hospital food. The dessert was to die for! I know that sounds stupid for choosing a hospital ... LOL ... but it's the little things they do there for you that make a difference with me.
Toledo Hospital to me is just too big.
Our baby girl!!
