A month or so ago, C took a burp cloth to bed with her. It is actually somewhat cute since it is a homemade one we received as a gift. It is a burp cloth nonetheless. She has one of those little blanks with the stuffed animal head in the middle. I tried to encourage her to use that. While she likes it, when she gets in bed she will sit up and look for the burp cloth. Should I just let her go with it? Can I purchase something cuter, like a little Taggies blanket (they were on sale on Zulily recently)? It seems silly, but I would like her to attach to something cuter!
Re: Replacing a lovey?
DH's niece is attached to a burp cloth and I can say at 4.5 its kind of gross seeing her with it. It has to be one in particular that has been used and abused since she was tiny so its all stained up. I'm sure people wonder what the heck is going on watching her run around with it.
I'm all for trying to get C to attach to something better looking, but have no practical advice to give on how to make it happen. Just remember that whatever you use its possible it will get dragged around for years to come so pick something on the smaller end.
I have to say, that's brilliant!
I think lovey's are more effective when the child choses them so I vote for keeping the burp cloth. At our house, they aren't allowed to leave the house, so I'm not worried about what they look like, but that might be a nice compromise.
I wouldn't worry about it too much, just be happy that she picked out i guess, and one taht it easily portable. I'd never think it was weird to see a kid toting around a "fancy" burp cloth.
It could be much worse. I'll never forget the one time my family was at the MN zoo and there was some like 4 yr old kid carrying (and sucking) on a GINORMOUS bra - which I can only assume was his moms and he loved for the smell. It was soooo well used and gross. Now that I would put a stop to, a long time ago.
I think I just died laughing....
