This is not the best pic and it just shows my progress through Saturday (which was when I baste=stiched the front bodice to the bottom skirt to make sure my ribbon detailing lined up).
I still have to add the bodice lining, do final stitching throughout, add the zipper, try it on her, and then hem up the bottom so that it is just below her knee (which I'll probably finish in November closer to Disney time).
Instead of buying a rapunzel costume (polyester, itchy, doesn't breathe well), I'm making one out of 100% cotton using a modified pattern and fabrics I found on fabric.com and high fashion fabric (the purple one was from high fashion). The one with the gold detailing is lilac although it doesn't show as well in the picture.
It was really fun to work on with my mom in town last week. It was nice to bounce ideas off of, especially when reworking the pattern from what I could find in the pattern books!

I'll post a finished product pic if anyone is interested.
Re: Pic of sewing project - Rapunzel dress for M
I am still learning. Very novice. It's slow work for me because I have to read and re-read directions a few times sometimes.
I DID learn that McCall's instructions are so much easier to understand than Simplicity, even their Sew Easy patterns!
And thanks to mom's help/corrections my pattern adjustments worked out ok (this pattern calls for the 2 purple flaps to connect on the side, not be divided in the front).
And duchess, I'm in awe of your cooking ability. So we're even.

that is so cute! i suck suck suck at sewing. i wish soo much i could do it! i've tried over the years to no avail. i even totally failed at the "sewing for dummies" pattern and dropped out of my remedial sewing class.
she's so lucky to have a mommy who cn make stuff just like she wants : )
is this for fun or is she going to be rapunzel for halloween? she certainly has the hair for it!

I have caught the "special outfits for Disney World" fever.
She will probably wear something a little more sparkly and fancy for Cinderella's table but will wear this on one of the days we are there just out and about in the park - and yes she has the perfect hair for it, lol. A regular costume would not be comfortable and I'm planning on making it just below the knee so it's more like a Rapunzel-inspired dress like you might find on Etsy.
I'm also making coordinated Minnie Mouse-inspired dresses for her and my soon-to-be 2 year old niece. Same fabrics but cuts for their age group, and probably a hat for my niece. =D
And then I'll be doing 3 coordinated appliquee shirts for her, my niece, and my nephew for Animal Kingdom. (If I can't do it myself I will send off to Strawbery Blonde Boutique since I know she will do orders using fabric you send her, thanks to Kat asking her!).

Bwah hahahaha!
I'm totally reliving my childhood through Madeline but not THAT badly!
Heck I'm still traumatized from my dad making us wear turquoise colored t-shirts that read in huge font on the back [last name]'s of [town name], NM! My name was on the front. Spelled B-r-a-n-d-i-e. It is BrandY on my birth certificate (and i've gone by my middle name Michelle since I was 8).
My coordinated shirts for Maddie, Julianne, and Jake are going to be age appropriate and subtle. And my nephew will totally be excused from wearing his if he doesn't want to wear it! (He'll be 10, but I don't want him to feel left out as I make his little sister stuff).
