Hey guys, I mentioned a while ago that H and I were going to CA/Disneyland and I know someone wanted to know about the hotel we stayed at. I posted this on my local board so figured I would just copy the whole thing in case anyone is planning a trip to that area.
Hotel near Disneyland: Ayres Hotel Anaheim (they also have other locations so I would check them out if you're going to be in OC), we totally lucked out on this one since they had a buy 2 nights get a 3rd free deal at the time, so it would ~100/night! We also picked it because it had good reviews on TripAdvisor, otherwise it was a shot in the dark. They had a pool, hot tub, free parking, free hot breakfast, microwave/sink/fridge in the room, everything was really clean, cute European charm and everyone was super nice. It's probably one of the farther hotels in the area, but you can just take the ART ($4/day/person), which I figured almost anyone would do unless you are in the Disneyland resort, so being farther wasn't a big deal to me.
Hotel in Newport Beach: Hyatt Regency. We booked this one through Hotwire, so we didn't know what we'd get other than 4 stars. We were a little nervous because some of the reviews (after we bought it and could see them) weren't great, but some said to request the Balboa building so we did that. It was actually excellent. Perfect resort feel to it! There were several different buildings, all only 2 stories and each had it's own pool/hot tub, so we 'visited' different ones :P There were also some fun things to do like shuffle board and ping pong, which was actually kind of fun. There's a bar, restaurant, gift shop and spa all in the resort too.
Newport Beach/Laguna Beach: Picking which area was really nerve-wracking for me and although I asked on TN where to go, everyone just listed all of them. But I think these were actually a very awesome/lucky choice. We drove up the Pacific Coast Highway back to the airport just for fun, and I can say that none of those beach towns were as nice. Both of these beach towns were cute, interesting, lively etc... hard to describe, but I highly recommend them.
(on my birthday!)
Also, I used those new Sally Hansen Salon Effects things and they are awesome. I think I'm going to do this whenever I go on a trip because they really do last and look like a manicure. More expensive than just painting your nails, but WAY less than a manicure and they last longer IMO.
