I'm pregnant. Yes, I'm 19 days post hip surgery. Yes, this was a surprise.
You guys, I'm freaking out. Obviously, we're thrilled, but I'm so concerned about my recovery plus first trimester. I'm calling all my various docs today. My hip is healing well, and I should be fully recovered by 12 to 16 weeks post-op. Which is 14-18 weeks of pregnancy.
I have about three weeks left on crutches, thank goodness. Hip surgery was arthroscopic, so it's not like it was a hip replacement or anything.
I'm five weeks along. Please, please tell me it will be fine and my body can do this.
Re: So, I have news.
Um, first, CONGRATULATIONS!
Second, yes, I think you'll absolutely be fine. Early pregnancy relaxes joints/tendons/ligaments, but other than that, I can't imagine why it would be a problem. The stress/weight of pregnancy comes later so I don't see that as an issue.
What specifically are you worried about being a problem?
Thanks, Wendy! That helps.
Well, since I'm pregnant, we can't do any post-op xrays now to check recovery. So I'm concerned about that. And I'm nervous about going back to teaching in two weeks, on crutches, exhausted, and nauseated. I'm a worrier by nature, obviously!
But it will all be fine!

Are you still on pain meds? Those can usually be adjusted to something safe to take while pregnant. I didn't think about x-rays, but I'm sure your doctor will have some ideas.
I wouldn't worry too much about exhaustion, nausea just yet (or at least any more so than without the hip injury). Every pregnancy is different and perhaps you'll have an easy first trimester (I never once threw up during pregnancy). Good luck!
I understand you being worried about the logistics, but it'll work out just fine. Other than being tired, first tri wasn't that bad for me. I just napped a lot after work and on weekends
Oh yay!! So happy for you! Congratulations!
I have no advice, but I think the pp's had some good thoughts.

Congrats!!!! That's so exciting!!!
You've had good advice! Just take it easy and don't over do anything to help with your recovery.
You're so sweet to reassure me. Thanks. No, not on pain meds anymore, so that's good.
Congratulations! I know you have had a long road to get here so that has to make it even more exciting, and terrifying.
FWIW, I had to have a chest x-ray while I was PG because I had a terrible respiratory infection that just would not go away. (I had dealt with it for almost a month.) They were worried that it was turning into something worse.
Congrats again!!
Extremely happy for you--Happy and healthy 9 months to you!!
Thanks for sharing your experience with that! I'm feeling better about it all now that I'm past the holycrapijusthadsurgeryandi'mknockedup initial shock!
Congrats!
It will be fine and your body can do this! Your body is making extra growth hormone so it may help in your hip recovery.
I'm excited for you! Hoping for a H&H 9 months!
