First, am I the only one on here who calls their grandmother, Grammie? We called my Dad's mom, Grandma, and call my mom's mom, Grammie. Here is the final update:
We drove up to MA to visit her and my mother (who is in town from NC) on Saturday afternoon. She looks freaking amazing for a 91 yo old woman who just had major surgery. Her incision runs from just below her ear, down her neck, and curves to end almost where her Adam's apple would be. She was still very swollen and tired easily. I was amazed that they used that new incision glue instead of stitches to seal her up. It was pretty cool looking.
She happened to have a f/u appointment yesterday with her PCP on the Lyme Disease and muscle disease and so far it's looking good. If she starts to get more pain from the muscle disease she can go back on steroids again now that her surgery is over.
I think Mariela was the best medicine for her. It seemed like M knew her Great Grammie wasn't 100% as she kept going over to her and hugging her knees and she gave her kisses on her knees and arms. She had never given anyone actual kisses (she could blow kisses beforehand) before and we all melted. Alexi and I were so touched at how tender M was to her Great Grammie and told her that M had never given kisses like that before. It really melted my grandmother's heart and cheered her up. She felt bad she couldn't hold her, though.
My mom was amazed at how much Mariela has changed since she saw her in March. It was hard for her, though, to see how open and caring M was with my grandmother and then every time my mom tried to interact with her she was standoff-ish and shy. Luckily, at the very end of the visit she did get to steal one hug from Mariela. I know it sucks for her not to be closer to M.
Re: XP: Final update on my Grammie
Heather, so glad your Grammie is doing better!!! And no, you're not the only one - my mom's parents were grammy and grampy and my dad's were grandma and grandpa. Only grandpa is still alive.
K's parents will be grammy and pop (their request) and mine will be grandma and grandpa (their request).
Glad she is doing so well!
We call my mom's mom Grammie as well.
I am so glad to hear your Grammie is doing better! I swear Babies and animals have that sixth sense when someone is sick or needs extra love.
I am sorry your mom was down about M not being more lovey towards her. I know my parents felt that way when they were here because N was standoffish with them too. It sucks for the out of town parents/grandparents.
Glad to hear she's doing better!
My mom will be Grammy/Grammie (her request)

Glad she's doing well!
Patrick calls his maternal grandmother "grammie" (even though I call my mom's mom "Nannie").
