WWYD - job related

I got offered a job yesterday and I have to tell them tomorrow if I'll take it or not.

Here's the deal: The job I was offered is a good, stable job. It'll be difficult, for sure, but the company is solid and the plan is for me to advance quite quickly there. Pay is eh, but pretty decent benefits. It's 9 to 5 in London, so I won't see Beth for more than half an hour per day tops, unless we move.

But I also have a second interview with a job that would be way more interesting to me. There is some room for advancement, but not tons. I don't know the pay scale. The commute is much easier, though, and there is flexible working hours, so if I got to work really early, I could pick up Beth from daycare.

But it's not a sure thing. I also have another interview scheduled, and possibly another one in the works.

So I don't know what to do. Do I turn down the offer in the hopes of the more interesting job? Do I accept the offer, and then back out if the more interesting job pans out? I don't like to mess people about though, and the boss is a really cool guy and I don't want to let him down.

So what do you all think?

Re: WWYD - job related

  • I would ask for more time to decide. Two days is not a lot of time for you to make the decision

  • If you did accept the first job, would it be worth it to move? Would you be willing to give up time with Beth for work?

Personally, I'd hold out for the second interview. The first seems like a good opportunity, but I think it would cut into family life too much, at least until you moved.

I thought this too. DH says that would be bad form, as they'd know I was holding out for another offer.

We couldn't afford to move at the current salary, but perhaps in time...

And I really don't want to give up all of my time with Beth; however, jobs in my industry are almost exclusively in London.

Gah, I hate big decisions. Stupid being a grown-up.
