bachelorette help

Hi gals.  So I'm planning my BFF's bach party for October.  She lives in the Lehigh Valley.  We did Philly for mine, so I'm not even going to suggest Philly.  I'm also thinking Atlantic City because but I think we could get what we are looking for down there, such as a nice restaurant for dinner, drinking and dancing, maybe some shopping.  No strippers or strip clubs.  We're not going to rule out her area completely, but I am just trying to think out of the box a bit.  I was just in a wedding where we did Newport, RI and it was kick @ss.  Super fun.  We rented a giant house which turned out to be really affordable per person.  It was May so we didn't need the beach - just some nice restaurants, nice bars, and shopping.  The nightlife was really good, so the bride was able to get her dance on.  I just think it's a little too far. It was ok for the last crew because it was centrally located for a lot of guests, but most of her friends are in PA or Central Jerz.  Since it will be October, I don't know if any NJ/DE beach towns still have a somewhat active nightlife. I am stumped.  The Poconos is super duper fun for a girls weekend in the winter, but in October I feel like it's probably dead.  Plus cabs are non-existent up there so it's tough.

Are there any other places you might suggest for a weekend getaway that has the above?  Bonus points if you can suggest a town or city within 2-3 hours from here :)  TIA!

Re: bachelorette help

  • Hello - I am mostly a lurker here, but wanted to suggest Ocean City, Maryland.  Seacrets is a lot of fun, even in the fall, and other bars are still popular at that time.  OCMD has cabs and a bus that runs the entire length of the town that you can take.

  • I second OCMD.  The bus used to be one flat rate and you could ride it all day with a pass they give you.  It went up and down Coastal Highway and used to come almost every 5 minutes (unlike SEPTA). I haven't been there in several years, so I am not sure if they still do this.  The main drag in OCMD is Coastal Highway which pretty much runs the whole length of the town and is where everything is within a block or two.

  • We just stayed at Harrah's in AC for my sister's bachelorette and had a great time. We went to the pool bar, which was much more fun than I expected (I'm not a club type of person) and because it's a HUGE area, it didn't get painfully crowded like those clubs can be.
  • I think the beach could still be fun in October or how about NYC for a night? You can get good deals on hotels. You could walk around during the day and get a pedicure, and then go to dinner somewhere fun.

  • OCMD is a good idea, except we're going the 2nd weekend in September. Her parents have a condo for the week, so I was invited to stay the weekend since I'm close with her fam.  Going 2 weeks later might be kind of weird :/

NYC sounds like it could an option, but I think I am leaning more towards AC.  We grew up only an hour from NYC so it has gotten overdone.  The only prob with NYC I find for bach parties is that it can get overwhelming trying to find the "right" place at night if the bride wants the drinking/dancing thing.  Some places have crazy covers or they are too clubby if that makes any sense.

Jessh - when you did AC, did you just get a bunch of hotel rooms or did you do a suite or anything?

  • We got 2 hotel rooms, and everyone crammed in. We got the deluxe waterfront 2 queen rooms, and were able to fit 2 air mattresses in each (we rolled them in in suitcases).
  • Jewels you can also check VRBO and get some cute houses in Brigantine, which is about a 5 minute cab ride from AC.

That is not a bad idea at all!  That way, we have some options and not just AC if we were to do the whole weekend.  Like, we could just AC one night and come home to a comfortable house.  Hmmmm... lots to think about.

My parents have a house in Brigantine and it is super convenient to get to AC. Just a word of wisdom, it is cheaper to use a Brigantine cab company then getting one in AC right outside the door of a casino for some reason. Just save the number and call when you are almost ready to leave.

    Holy shizzzzz.

I'm sure it's out of budget, but I figured it was worth a check.
