I'm going to scream or cry or both

I called the IRS to set up payment for what we owe this year, the lady told me she doesn't even show we filed our taxes for 2010 OR 2009.  WHAAAAAT?!!? I do not file them myself we use a CPA.  Now we are getting penalized for not filing on time and not paying on time for BOTH years.   Crying

Re: I'm going to scream or cry or both

  • This sucks. Did you use a licensed CPA or someone like Jackson Hewitt who have people off the street filing your taxes? That is for real. Talk to SCB about this. It happened to her this year :(

  • Did you contact the CPA??

Not jackson hewitt an actual CPA.  I have an appointment with her at 10 a.m. saturday.

  • Your cpa works saturdays this time of  year? ?

Dont worry too much, if there is proof that you filed timely your cpa can provide that to the IRS, which will make them drop the late filing penalties. This is usually in the form of a certified mail recpt. (if you filed with a payment via mail, that is how a cpa will usually send it) OR an electronic time stamp which is automatically given to the CPA when they file using a tax software to efile your returns.
