2-in-1 Washer/Dryer

I am usually a lurker on this board but I need some advice.

DH and I are looking for a new washing machine.  Dryers are extremely rare here (we live in Southeast Asia), but I did see some 2-in-1 Washer/Dryer combo units.  Has anyone ever used one? Any advice? Does the Dryer work?

 Thanks.

Re: 2-in-1 Washer/Dryer

  • My sister is currently in S. Korea. This is what she posted recently on her blog-

-dryers are REALLY rare here: well, at least in the western definition. upon asking, i was told by my recruiter that all washers are actually combination washer/dryers, and i was told this by the delivery dude when he brought it to my apartment. NOPE. the ?dryer? cycle is actually more of a ?wringing? cycle. your clothes aren?t completely soaked, but they?re still too damp to put away. my dryer? a collapsible drying rack, a coat hanger, and the tall doors on my wardrobe. in the winter (and before I got a cat) i?d just sweep the floor, lay the clothes out flat, crank the ondol heating, and go to work. i can still turn the heat on, but not so hot as to cook the cat, and i certainly can?t leave them on the floor lest he destroy them. the complaint of nearly all non-military expats here: having to wash your clothes at least two days ahead of time to be sure they?re fully dry.

  • My mother had a washerdryer, as we called it, when she lived in the Netherlands. I would assume it would be the same or very similar to the product you can get in Asia. it did dry the clothes but it took FOREVER. I believe it was two cycles so you wouldn't have to run the dryer after you have washed the clothes. If it were me, I would get the dual machine just so I had the dryer but would plan to hang dry most things.
  • Thanks Ladies for the advice.  That is kind of what I thought may be the case.  We have been hanging our clothes to dry for the past 4 years (having no dryer) anyways so it maybe simpler just to get a decent washing machine and line dry instead.
