IE users have a lower IQ

Thought some of you would find this article interesting. I found it amusing, I am a IE user.

Re: IE users have a lower IQ

  • Having had my IQ tested, and being an IE user, I can assure you that not all IE users have a lower IQ.  This is how people can use numbers to make things work the way they want - and I'd love to actually know how many people they tested and questioned (cause unless it was in the 1000's and very randomized, I don't think it's all that valid).  Research like that makes me laugh.

  • They tested 101,326 people.  And it's only about the average IQ of the browser users, so clearly there are people using all of the browsers that are both above and below the average.

I think the graph from the paper explains the results a lot better than the sensationalized BBC article:

And if you're interested, here's the original paper:
    http://lauren.vortex.com/IQ-Browser.pdf

It's really a little more focused on the trends of using antiquated browsers (esp older versions of IE), and it's been making the rounds of my professional tech circles for a week.  It has definitely ruffled some feathers, and I got snapped at by a stranger when "someone" reposted my cheeky comment that "Stupid people are the reason web devs still have to support IE6."

And Pineapples, if you're still using IE6, on behalf of web programmers (and computer security experts), please move up to a later version!

  • Oh, I'm not. I'm in verion 9 I believe...I always make sure I update these things.  I just am used to the interface and don't see the need to change to chrome or firefox. (And as my DH is in technology and I do a lot of work in tech in my job, I would never be that bad!).

  • Amusing article, but I think the analysis of the results is incomplete. I also wonder how serious the subject were about taking the test since it sounds like it was taken over the web.

My browsing is split about 50/50 between IE8 (work computer) and Safari.

  • Wow! I can't believe it was a hoax! I originally saw the link when it was shared by a world-renowned computer security expert, and I've since seen it shared by some of the top people in the programming industry!

Bravo to whoever did it! They certainly had the computer elite fooled!
