Update on house hunting

We heard back from our agent today about the offer we put on a townhouse and the sellers countered with the asking price and they would pay closing costs.  Definitely not what we wanted to hear!  We really like this place but it's really not worth what they are asking.  We've decided that if they are not willing to negotiate with us, then this really isn't the home for us.  Soooo, back to square one and looking at more houses.  While I'm super excited to buy our first home, I'm kinda burned out on this whole process.  I know we'll find "the one" but I'm still frustrated nonetheless.  Thanks for letting me get this off my chest!

Re: Update on house hunting

  • That sounds a lot like our experience. Although now 9 years later I'm so glad we are in this house and not the one we first picked.
  • If I have any home buying advice, its....dont settle right away.

The house we are in was probably the 10th house we looked at with our realtor. At the time we LOVED it and settled. We HATE it now. I know at times this will happen but I think if we would have thought things through alittle more we wouldnt have been in this house for sure!

So, make sure you think it all through!

  • My boss always says... your best negotiation tools are your feet.

    Get up and walk.

We are going to head into fall and winter here soon.  Let them sit on the house for awhile.

    Unless I was 110% about it, I wouldn't budge.

    Love this advice D!

Yes, i agree with PP. While I am okay with our house, we jumped into it soooo fast and we definately would not be in this house if we had taken more time to look and not settle.

  • I started the whole house search a few months back and was so excited.  And then I just got frustrated and gave up for awhile.  I figure after a bit, I might start back up again.  I didn't realize how draining it could be.

    Good luck!

  • Your boss sounds like my hubby lol!

The best part about them not coming down in price at all is that we know they are desperate to sell.  No one (besides us) has even looked at the house in about two months and we are the only offer they've had!  I guess they've pretty much lost their chance to get this off their hands; sucks to be them!!

  • Like pp said, hang in there! We had to buy very quickly as our house suddenly sold after 13 months on the market & we had to be out in 18 days. Yikes. We found a house we absolutely adore that is perfect for  us...but we took our time (although limited) & didn't settle.

You'll find the right place...remember, it's a buyer's market!!! Clearly the seller of that house & their realtor aren't understanding that.
