The separation paperwork in this country is sooooo easy. Since we have no kids, it's basically just filling out our names and addresses, and when/where we got married. Then we just have to sign it, and each have two people witness it.
I filled out everything for us. I explained it to Estranged-H. Then it sat on the kitchen counter for two weeks! After the separation is processed, we still have to wait a year before we can file the divorce papers.
We decided on a trial separation in April, and agreed to wait until end of June to do anything official. End of June came and went (partly because I was away and then sick and then catching up on work), and I got around to finding out about the form and filling it out at the end of July. So it's been almost four months since we decided to split.
I'm fed up with waiting, so I brought the paper to work today and asked him to sign it and get it witnessed. But he was going running. Okay, come by and pick it up this afternoon; it's right here on my desk. Nothing. It's 5:15, so I took it over and said, "Hey, can you sign this?"
Then he proceeds to just blindly copy info from my own signature block and starts to write "20/07/2011" for the date! WTF?! Hope they don't invalidate it for being scribbled out. And he asks our two colleagues in the room to witness it, but doesn't actually stop to ask them if they know their personal ID numbers. One of them doesn't. And he's already signed it. So now I have to sit and wait until he gets a chance to go look up his ID number.
And at the end of this, we still have to wait a year. Why does he have to drag his feet so much?! If he's worried we'll change our minds, that's what the one-year waiting period is for! I already agreed to the initial three months of purgatory, and now we're at four months.
I'm fine with him having a girlfriend and sleeping over at her place and us moving on with our lives. But I'm not fine with him forcing me to stay married to him just because he keeps procrastinating on the fracking paperwork.
It makes me want to scream.

Re: Fracking Estranged Husband!
There is, but then we'd have to go to court.
And he's never come out and said, "I don't want to sign." It's just that he keeps putting it off.
Good lord that would drive me up the wall. Sorry he's being such a douchecanoe hon. I can't even comprehend why he would even want to drag his feet over this. I mean come 'on...what exactly is the hold up here?
Sounds like he needs to have his hand held through everything.
