Vent

I decided to finally go back and finish my degree. I debated it and debated it and finally decided I was just coming up with excuses.  I filled out all the forms and did FAFSA.  Well now I'm told that I have to submit at least 1/4 of my tuition by Friday.  I found out last night thanks to an automated call.  My financial aid stuff still hasn't been reviewed.  I applied for financial aid because as a single parent I can't afford the tuition...even at DMACC.  If I don't pay by Friday then I will be dropped from my class.  I only signed up for one because I wanted to ease into it and its offered online.  The class is full so if I get dropped then I can't re-add and will have to wait until Spring.  I know it doesn't seem that big because I could wait until Spring but I really wanted to start now.  Then there is the "what if I don't get financial aid"? Like I said, there is no way I can afford tuition and books on my own. So now I'm in a mood.  I am on my second Diet Coke and its not helping any!! Any suggestions of what to do????

Vent over!! If anyone would like to join my pity party of one I would love to have you! My grandma is making Harli and I dinner tonight so that will lift my mood some. Watch out Peanut Butter M&Ms, you will be devoured for dessert!!

Re: Vent

  • I am sorry that stinks.  Both my husband and brother have been through the FAFSA hoops and I know that it's no fun, a PITA and takes forever!  I am sorry that they have you stuck!  I wish that they could push that stuf through a lot faster, or do it automated so people wouldn't have to wait and worry. Hugs!
  • I'm sorry! I don't have any advice but just wanted to say hang in there!

  • Ugh, I feel for you.  I used to work with financial aid assistance at DMACC and the FAFSA stuff is a pain.  It will take 6-8 weeks for the school to get any information about your financial aid and then you will still have to elect what you are going to use from it, etc.  I'm not sure when you submitted your application but if it was recently you may not get a determination on financial aid until halfway through your class.  It is so frustrating the process takes that long, especially if people have made that tough decision to go back to school and are all excited about it.  I hope everything goes through as quickly as possible. Good luck!
