Has anyone done the Mermaid Run in SF?
I'm thinking about running the 5K in mid November (it would be my first ever race and I am really scared!) If you've done it, was it a good experience? It's women only and supposedly a flat course. It gives me more than three months to train and get mentally prepared, so I'm thinking it'll be a good, easy first race for me. Thoughts?

Before race day:
- Drink plenty of fluids.
- Don't eat anything out of the ordinary for yourself just to avoid any tummy issues the day of.
- Lay out clothes the night before, attach timing chip and bib (bib goes on the front), etc.
Race Day:
- Give yourself plenty of time to get there and not be stressed. I like to arrive an hour before.
- Eat your normal pre-run food.
- Use the bathroom right before the race.. even if you dont think you need to go.
Otherwise, just go out and have fun! Try to ignore people passing you and just focus on your speed and your race. Sometimes its hard to not feel like you are behind because people pass you, but you'll see that a lot people go out fast and then end up walking because of it. So just stay steady and hold your normal pace.
The mermaid runs have given out a cool reusable bag, tech t-shirts, and necklace. I ran the half, so not sure if they give less for the 5K or not. I like their shirts a lot. They also give you tons of samples and papers.. which may or may not include something good.

I did!! I have done it 2 yrs in a row.
You may be able to see my picture on FB with the 2 thumbs up with the GG Bridge behind me.
The race is AWESOME! You are running along the Pacific Ocean towards the GG Bridge and it is relatively flat.
I lucked out last year as the weather was PERFECT. I may do it again this year
Ditto what T says.
However, I have noticed the Mermaid series has their shirts run smaller (this is coming from a bigger chested gal) than normal.
edit-I am running it with my sister!

Wanna do it again with me?
ETA: Oh, looks like you already are! And maybe Tonic too...? I don't expect to keep up with either of you but it would be reassuring to see familiar faces there
Of course!! I will do it with you!! It will be fun!! Then after we can celebrate with some breakfast!
Yes, I just did and I did not have any problems. Maybe they fixed it?
Well it was a weird issue. They ask on there if you've ever done a Mermaid event before, and I answered no. The next question is, if you've said yes, how many times? And you have to answer it before moving on, but I haven't done any before so ... yeah.
I'd love to, but I'm trying to play it by ear as to how long I can run for. I hope to run up until the end... but I have good friends who had to stop early due to PSD.

I started C25K and got off track during the holidays and never started up again :-/ I'm lame. So I'm restarting it again and am on week 1 now.
I don't want to sound like a total ass, but I have no idea if I run well with others or if I'm better off on my own? I think trying to keep up with someone else's pace might stress me out. I really don't know what kind of runner I am or what I feel like during a race since I've never really done this consistently before!
